This project is what our worker-owned co-op @cardboardrevolution.com came together to do, and it’s been such a joy to make this game exactly the way we want to make it.

If you like co-op games, solo games or just really love Japanese folklore, please check it out!

Kidomaru card next to the Demon Castle Mononoke board

In tonight's play of Demon Castle Mononoke (@cardboardrevolution.com), the farmer made a valiant effort to save the last rooms of the Shrine, but Kidomaru overwhelmed her with a whopping 10 attacks. I got whooped, but I'm thinking about what I could have done differently, a sign of a great game.

Americans were asked to stop shopping and wear a mask for 2 weeks and it caused our entire society to revert to barbarism. Rugged individualism is a failed ideology, time to start over

I hate that small press publishers are incentivized to overextend, overpromise, launch their new title with a suite of add-ons and upsells, reveal high-profile surprise collaborators at a moment of surging attention, and leapfrog past a healthy, iterative scaling-up of production capacity.

a discussion from r/boardgames

Giant Dork: "This review was definitely written by AI guided by a human."

OP: "Space Biff, the reviewer, is very vocally anti AI. He's been writing reviews for over a decade, and is incredibly well respected. This is a very stupid accusation."

Big Dork: "Maybe he’s so prolific ChatGPT writes like him now. I know who he is and read his reviews all the time, but this one feels very AI polished. It’s one way to help stay prolific and still get his own thoughts in there. It’s not wrong to use AI to polish your writing at all."

This exchange on r/boardgames, in reference to the review I wrote yesterday, raises a whooooooole lot of emotions for me. Bear with me as I work through them.

I'm NEVER getting over how beautiful trans people are. Every time I see one, especially smiling and thriving, I just go "holy fucking shit, no fucking way" and the possibility that someone else looks at me that way hits me like a shovel to the face

a screenshot of the campaign page for The Game Makers. The green banner reads GO TEAM GREEN! It has an image of the wooden tree pieces, and a curious looking cute cartoon panda. The text underneath reads "Part of The Game Makers focuses on the need for modern day manufacturers making efforts to reduce their impact on the environment. Players can even score a significant amount of points if they focus on going green. This is abstracted in the game as swapping components for planting trees or planting trees when certain gameplay milestones are reached." Beneath that there's a gameplay image featuring the tree pieces placed on a game board.

Something I didn't get to say yesterday:

We heard over and over during the event about "human-centered" approaches to "AI". But if refusal is not on the table (at every level: individual students and teachers right up through UNESCO) then we have in fact centered the technology, not the people.

There is a synergy in why Trump 2.0 and AI are politically and culturally happening at the same time, with the latter becoming a pile of bullshit you are forced to acknowledge and deal with in tandem as the former threatens everything around you

WCK’s mobile bakery in Gaza is currently producing 45,000 loaves of bread every day. With more supplies, including flour and fuel, we'd be able to more than double that daily output and support more Palestinian families in need. #ChefsForGaza

this trans woman was taken into ICE custody tonight over a 3-year old weed charge. she faces torture in men’s detention centers or self-deportation and leaving behind everything she knows (if she can afford that option). please support if you’re able

they’re kidnapping trans women and forcing them to choose between male detention centers, where theyll be tortured, sexually abused and forcibly detransitioned, and leaving her whole life behind via self-deportation. but please go on with your “reasonable concerns” about trans rights

Why should I write better when a machine can do it for me?
Because actually no one can do it for you, because your voice is unique among all the people on earth. Siri never petted a horse's neck. Alexa has never been ghosted by the captain of the football team. But you have lived, your heart is beating, you have suffered, and you have something important to say. It's a human's job, to use words, and whatever job you give to a machine, that part of your brain goes dark. Maybe it's worth it when it comes to remembering phone numbers and directions, but when that part of your brain that uses words goes dark, that's a vast area that's very close to your soul. Don't let some internet platform convince you that what you have to say and create isn't worthwhile. Words are the echo of your soul. Honing that echo matters.

Since the AI discourse is evergreen:

You are losing far more than you gain with AI writing. You are losing your ability to create, to imagine. You are losing valuable skill experience that could improve your work down the line. You are losing community. You are losing marketing opportunities.

the tldr is that the anti-trans voters who care enough about the issue to change votes will only change votes if Dems promise to eliminate trans people from society. But showing weakness on protecting trans rights could potentially lose millions of Dem base votes.
