Every once in awhile, as a short break from being forced to design terrible things for clients who don’t understand their own assignment, I design something wholly for myself. Nice to move those purely creative muscles again.

Shayla, listen —
I will not disappear. It is a long and exhausting list, all these things I will not do today. But disappearing is first, always.
An old text book, falling to pieces, rescued the cover by making a painting on it. Texture just like canvas. #painting
Sunday morning and I'm posting on Bluesky ... I might as well be writing private blog posts in 2002.

I still like to write the story, draw for the story, edit it, design it, print it, sew it into a book, then make an audio version. Because. Because I'm old and my brain is glitch-stuck at 2003.

If you prefer reading experiences to taste like stinging nettles, then I have a new Tinyletter (free, on Substack) out today: drawpaintwriteandmakethings.substack.com/p/draw-thing...
It's Inktober again — an ink drawing every day this month. This is ink brush straight to found paper.

This is a gel monoprint. It has nothing to do with the Tinyletter I sent out today (drawpaintwriteandmakethings.substack.com/p/draw-thing...), which is about being haunted by Bryan Adams, what that says about the end of culture, and how people don't want to hear you complain. #culture
Put up a story on my Patreon today, it's very quiet and a bit mad and absolutely free. Link in first comment below. #shortstory
Some crackly old-school listening in the studio. #CassetteCulture
This is painted on a vintage map. I take disused and obsolete things and try to make something new. This is in tempera, which is like painting with pumice.
23.5 x 47.75 inches but folds all the way done to 6 x 12 inches

Incidentally, John Dall is the ‘good’ brother, which is funny after just seeing him in Gun Crazy (made the same year).
The other night we watched this 1950 film noir where Lee J. Cobb is a little too casual about covering up some over-anxious gunplay by Jane Wyatt. The fact that he’s a cop further complicates things, and his younger brother being the detective working the case makes it all but impossible. #filmnoir

Watched Gun Crazy on the weekend. More gun than crazy. But some of that, too.
what i like to do, in my spare time, is expect nothing. you can do this in an active way, for example when out for a walk, getting some fresh air and exercise. or you can do it in a passive way, in the comfort of your own home, perhaps from under a blanket, endlessly scrolling your phone.
