I want to recognize the irony of the City Council's Earth Day resolution when every meaningful climate/sustainability ordinance currently sits in Rules Committee limbo.
If CPD can track down and arrest the people who stole this bear, I'm trusting they can arrest the person who hit and seriously injured Nakari Campbell with their car. They had their license plate and address three years ago! Justice deferred can still be justice.

It was a privilege working with Garien Gatewood over the last three years. He was a consummate professional and an essential leader in reducing gun violence in Chicago. The 1st Ward would not have experienced a 70%+ reduction in shootings without him. His firing is a tremendous loss for the city.
Because the investigation is ongoing, I cannot provide additional details at this time, but I have pledged support for all resources necessary to keep our neighborhood safe. (3/3)
It was a truly senseless and tragic shooting of an unarmed man from outside the neighborhood, and my heart goes out to the victim and all friends and neighbors impacted by this violence. (2/3)

Hey Steven and Michael, this crash was the result of a medical emergency suffered by one of the drivers. Sadly, the individual did pass but not due to the crash. Injuries caused by the crash were considered minor.

Kicking off 2026 with some fantastic news: there were zero traffic fatalities in the 1st Ward last year. When we invest in traffic calming infrastructure, we save lives.

The Committee on Finance vote made it clear that we have a lot of work to do before we can pass a budget, but I’m committed to working towards a responsible, transparent budget that supports safe, stable neighborhoods for all Chicagoans.
As they stand, I would have been 'no' votes on the bond and management ordinances as they fail to achieve the transparency and responsibility demanded by 1st Ward residents. I remain committed to doing the hard work of crafting the budget you deserve over the coming weeks. (5/5)
The Revenue Ordinance failed and all other votes have been indefinitely delayed, proving that we have much work to do in developing a stable and responsible budget that has the political support to pass. (4/5)
I was thinking of those who recognize the necessity of a TIF surplus in maintaining our school budgets, the importance of continuing our holistic investments in community safety, and the fairness in asking corporations in Chicago to pay incrementally more for the safety we all benefit from. (3/5)
