Together wind/solar + batteries are *more* reliable, affordable, deployable and resilient than gas (and way more than coal). Trump et al love to claim otherwise, but it's a lie.

The logic only holds if you remember Trump is beholden to fossil fuel interests.

DOE cancels more than $700M in battery, manufacturing projects The nixed grants appear to be the first the Department of Energy has confirmed from a list that outlines $20 billion in potential cuts.

Here are some facts:
*Trump is cancelling clean energy projects
*Trump is cancelling battery manufacturing investments
*Fossil fuels can't compete economically on a fair playing field with renewables + batteries
*Trump took almost $1b from the fossil industry in 2024

Opinion | This Is Why Your Energy Bills Are Going Up

Trump invented a fake energy crisis. Now he’s causing a real one. [🎁 link] www.nytimes.com/2025/10/09/o...

I guess that makes sense if Pete is going to make bullying great again, it makes sense that he would use this ridiculous display to throw his weight around.

Amazing how those democratic lawmakers who were hunted down in their homes in the middle of the night in Minnesota weren’t a watershed moment of political violence, huh?

I refrained from telling the guy sitting behind me thanks for the two-hour lumbar massage.

Please congratulate me on my restraint.

Me, most days: Breakfast? Nah, I’ll stick to coffee.

Me, when traveling: Yes I will have breakfast and second breakfast, and also yes I had two dinners last night.

We could have cool stuff like this. Instead we have men in masks breaking car windows and stopping people from fighting fires.

The president is sending the military to control American cities and if you're a reporter who's framing that illegal power grab as "pushing the boundaries of constitutionality" or "acting boldly to fight crime" or whatever, please go find another line of work where you won't get us all killed.

Pritzker is the bold, take-no-prisoners leader Gavin Newsom thinks he is.

Here is the update I promised. Google is just a fundamentally evil company stealing people's work so they can use it to steal their traffic. www.splinter.com/a-melancholy...

🙃🙃🙃 “Murder is illegal in California, but since the federal government said there’s no federal law against murder, California can only charge people born in California with murder. People from other states, Canada, and Mexico cannot be charged with any murders they commit in California.”

I really wish we had someone less smarmy than Gavin Newsom going this hard after Trump. But maybe only someone who is as self-interested as Newsom is willing to stoop that low.

So in sum: Companies are rushing to force a bunch of crap AI down our throats, that make customer service worse, destroy trustworthy sources of information, suck up massive amounts of energy supply and raising prices on consumers. Not sure who wins here, but it ain't us.

8 months ago 0 0 1 0

Not to mention the massive environmental and economic harm that comes with the huge energy demand to power all this junk. If you've noticed your energy bill is way up this summer, AI is a major reason why. Meanwhile, Trump is kneecapping renewables, which means less available energy coming online.

120 court cases have been caught with AI hallucinations, according to new database More than 20 legal professionals have been busted in the past month alone.

Good luck finding out trustworthy information. AI hallucinations are creating bullshit "articles" that become references for everything from wikipedia to court decisions. mashable.com/article/over...

Beyond my personal frustration, AI slop is making internet search and browsing a miserable experience. Want to figure out the answer to a question? Good luck wading through 15 badly written and incorrect AI-generated how-to pages before finding a real one!

I cannot express how much I loathe the proliferation of AI in everything. Every time some customer service line promises improved service thanks to AI, it inevitably fails to solve my request and I have to speak to a human anyway, just after multiple rounds of frustrating menus or chats.

DHS is delaying millions in already approved North Carolina recovery funds, documents show Communities across the region still need to be reimbursed for about a hundred projects including debris removal, waste water treatment repairs, roads and bridges, damaged buildings and parks, as well ...

NC waits for millions in *already approved* FEMA funds to pay for Hurricane Helene cleanup almost a year later.

Meanwhile, FEMA pours cash into concentration camps where kidnapped people await trafficking, and shifting emergency responders to ICE.

Sickening.

Here’s a question for reporters: how will the executive branch “wind down” tax credits that are still in the law? Perhaps, unlegally?

The How To Train Your Dragon “live action” remake is so incredibly unnecessary and I don’t plan to see it, but it did inspire me to rewatch the original trilogy, which I own and adore. All three films are wonderful, but the first is just a perfect movie.
