I'm "old" as well but am the complete opposite. I started with Odyssey because I like Mythology and loved it. Origins, enjoyed it. Valhalla enjoyed that one too. I eventually bought a package on Steam of all the older games. Couldn't get into them. Black Flag held my interest the longest.
