After years of setup, integration & debugging: it works! 🎉 We just achieved our first picosecond time-resolved measurement at the BelChem beamline — a major breakthrough within our BMFTR-funded project. Next: optimization and real science. 🔥⚡️ #trXPS #UltrafastScience #Photoemission #Synchrotron

Big milestone achieved: on Friday we delivered the first laser light onto the sample at our new tr-XPS endstation at BESSY II — after 3.5 years of development within our BMFTR-funded project. Next steps: beam focusing + spatial overlap optimization to push towards full pump–probe capability. 🔥🔬

🔥 Setup complete! WESPE endstation + laser system at the BelChem beamline (@BESSYII) is finally fully operational.
Next week: single-bunch beamtime = time-resolved XPS action. 🚀⏱️

DESY has restarted the free-electron laser FLASH following a 14-month upgrade as part of the FLASH2020+ project. The facility is now optimized for seeded FEL modes with extremely stable and spectrally narrow femtosecond X-ray pulses. I'm excited to use it!
