"If implemented, the EO would inject chaos into our elections, block eligible American citizens from voting, undermine voter privacy, and expose election officials and others to criminal prosecution simply for doing their jobs."

From a recent executive order to Supreme Court oral arguments in Watson v. RNC over how long states can accept ballots postmarked by Election Day — everyone's talking about mail voting.
Here's a 60-second explanation of its long history in the US.
“This is the same conspiracy theory-fueled stuff that we’ve seen elsewhere. It’s unfortunate to see law enforcement officers fall victim to these same easily disprovable conspiracy theories and misuse the warrant process.”

Some may freak out about this, but honestly, this is hilarious. It's clearly unconstitutional, will be blocked immediately, and the only thing it will accomplish is to make liberal lawyers wealthier. He might as well sign an EO banning gravity.

DC folks: I'll be talking voter suppression in the midterms with @beckerdavidj.bsky.social and @nytimes.com's Nick Corasiniti at the @hillcenterdc.bsky.social on May 6.
There'll be much to discuss, come on out!!

I have yet to talk to a single election official, R or D, who actually supports this bill. It would mandate a vast new expensive bureaucracy be put in place in months, and burden every voter in the US. Election policy should come from the states, not Washington, DC.
The precinct problem caused in Dallas and Williamson counties in the TX primary will NOT happen in November. While the parties have unusual power over the primaries in TX, they cannot change the process during a general election. These counties and elsewhere will use vote centers in November.
These charges were not similar. Peters literally stole an innocent person’s identity and used it to illegally access systems protected by state law. And she remains unrepentant to this day.
As the election season begins, I know there are lots of concerns about federal interference, and a sense of darkness about where our democracy is headed. But it's important to remember that elections are a celebration of our democracy, and we should allow ourselves to feel the JOY of VOTING. /1
What a gift such a clearly unconstitutional executive order would be! Though divorced from legal and factual reality, it would enable the courts to invalidate this power grab well in advance of the election, and confirm the clear limits to fed'l interference in elections.

This is false. Trump's DHS has confirmed that 99.98% of the 50M reg'd voters they checked had already documented citizenship (and many of the .02% others were also citizens). States - red and blue - confirm voter fraud is exceedingly rare - maybe a few dozen cases in any major election.
Why is the decentralization of our #elections so important? Because it serves as "one of the great security features of our system," CEIR's @beckerdavidj.bsky.social told NPR earlier this month.
This affidavit was much weaker than I suspected. No allegations of intent. No allegations of election theft. No allegations of foreign interference. No allegations that the statute of limitations doesn't apply.
At worst, it alleges human error, during a pandemic, that didn't affect the outcome.
Today, the Michigan district court joined two other federal courts (CA and OR) in denying DOJ the right to seize sensitive voter data (SSN, DL, DOB) on millions of Americans. The DOJ is now 0-3 in these cases (with 22 left to go), and yet they are still pressuring states for this data.
CEIR's excellent research team confirms: "Sweeping allegations about noncitizen registrations or voting appear to arise from misunderstandings, mischaracterizations, or outright fabrications about complex voter data."

“Can you imagine the uproar from Trump’s defense attorney if Biden’s DNI had been present at Mar-a-Lago during the execution of the warrant on his classified files? That defense attorney is now the Deputy Attorney General."

"The Supreme Court is allowing California to use its new congressional map for this year's midterm election, clearing the way for the state's gerrymandered districts."

We are thrilled that the New York Times editorial board included CEIR's Election Official Legal Defense Network (EOLDN) as one of three initiatives "helping to protect election officials and safeguard the [election] process."

I assure you that the few experienced litigators left at DOJ are blanching about this news. The facts around this bungled and questionable warrant lay bare that this was never about a crime. /1

The day after the Fulton County search, DNI Gabbard met with FBI agents who conducted the search and called President Trump, NYT reports.
"The president addressed the agents on speakerphone, asking them questions as well as praising and thanking them for their work." www.nytimes.com/2026/02/02/u...
I’ve just confirmed that, after a WH official informed the gathered secretaries of state from all over the US that Bondi, Gabbard, and Noem would attend their conference today and answer questions, ALL of them were no shows.
I appeared on CBS News last night to discuss the FBI serving a warrant on the Fulton County, GA elections office. As I note, those ballots have been counted 3 times, 3 different ways, once entirely by hand, all confirming the results over 5 years ago.

JUST IN: Judge dismisses Trump administration suit for Oregon voter rolls. Judge Mustafa Kasubhai (Biden) says DOJ request didn't comply with the law. He inquired today about Bondi letter to MN, but all sides said it didn't really impact the OR litigation at this stage
For a moment putting aside using a killing by a fed’l officer as an excuse for this, it’s interesting to note that she forgot to mention that TWO different fed’l courts have ruled against the DOJ on this issue just this month.
This is a bombshell. While demanding sensitive data on hundreds of millions of Americans, DOJ admits the feds are putting that data at risk, sharing it with an unnamed "political advocacy group" seeking to "overturn election results in several states."
www.politico.com/news/2026/01...
And one day later, CA court rules DOJ has failed to present legal justification for seizing voters’ protected data. DOJ continuing its record of defeats, now 0-2, with 22 cases remaining.

“We know what really happened on that day. And yet, there is a danger in forgetting that."
CEIR Executive Director @beckerdavidj.bsky.social joined CBS News to mark five years since #January6.
As the year winds down, I'm feeling very grateful for the work that CEIR does and very lucky to be a part of this amazing team. Please consider supporting our work if you can.

Last night, the President made a failed attempt at a “pardon by tweet” of convicted Colorado felon and conspiracy theorist Tina Peters. This came after several unsuccessful efforts to use the power of the federal government to pressure state officials to release her, despite her crimes. /1
