Malachite is a copper carbonate hydroxide mineral formed by precipitation of copper ores dissolved in groundwater.

The rate at which the mineral is deposited can radically alter the crystalline shape, including producing needle-like ('acicular') crystals as shown here.

Hence, do NOT touch.

Buffalo Calling Stones, Stinging, and Medicine Bundles: Fossil Legends of the Native Americans of the Plains The war between the Thunder Birds and the Water Monsters involved ranged warfare; they fired missiles at one another which the Sioux called kangi tame, or the blackened remains of lightning bolts.

How did Plains Indians explain and use fossils of long-extinct animals? Delighted to be cited in this fine article

Coastal hiking in Newfoundland, Canada is a treat for the eyes. Another view (last week) of the seaside cliffs near my hometown in Conception Bay North. #hiking #trail #ediacaran

A vibrant garden path filled with tall sunflowers leads to a house, while a child plays with a toy and figures in white stroll nearby.

Monet hired six gardeners, diverted a stream, and spent 43 years building a garden in Giverny.

Why would a painter spend half his life on one landscape? The answer changed art forever. 🧵👇 #artbots #monet

Female field horsetail on left. Male field horsetail on right. Equisetum arvense.

Strobolus is where the spores are grown. The grow between the joints of the hexagons. The hexagons separate and release the spores.

The female plant has not chlrophyll. It last only a few weeks in the spring.

The male plant is developing its whorls. They will extend 4 or so centimeters horizontally. The male plant will send nutrients to the rhizomes underground for the energy to grow the female plant in spring.
