I’ve been granted a #Fulbright Scholar Award and will be going to Indonesia to do critical #geography fieldwork on #ocean resource governance in relation to #seabedmining and #BBNJ in partnership with BRIN. Glad to see such issues in the news ⬇️
I can pop one in the mail to your uni address once I return from travel. 📫

As you may have heard, Portland State University is facing budget cuts and has placed our program, the School of Earth, Environment, and Society, on a list for potential reductions. Please consider signing our petition to show support. Thank you!

19 Portland State University Departments are facing cuts or complete elimination. On 3/19 members of SEIU 503-89 rallied to demand the Board of Trustees stop the cuts and secure state funding to grow our university. I stand with my fellow PSU workers in their fight for a fair contract.
For COYOTE, I wrote about hanging out with a bunch of nice geographers during a decidedly terrible time for academia.
I don't think people fully appreciate how apocalyptic things are for US science. I haven't had any new funding since 2024, but I'm still ok since typical grants are for three years. This means next year I will be completely out of funding and will have to fire everyone in the lab. It's not great.
Thanks, i was confused by the headline because I hadn’t seen anything about that number before. Like how did I miss this? Yup, it was being suppressed. Shameful.
I’d like to be more like my cat, not the other way around.
🚨 STOP. Don’t scroll. Odai is living in constant, unbearable pain. Doctors say his surgery cannot wait. Every hour without treatment could take away his chance to walk again. Time is running out and we are still far from the funds. Even $5 or a share could help save his future.

… I hate that we are yelling at each other instead of agreeing that all these men pushing buttons are liars and are happy to murder civilians
Yesterday Egypt was also on the list of LEAVE NOW. Now it’s level 2, same as Sweden. 😑
A message from the US State Department from March 2 listing many Middle East countries, including Egypt, telling Americans to DEPART NOW.
A message from the US State Department on March 3 listing the levels of danger for many middle eastern countries with Egypt as the low level 2: exercise increased caution.
State Department messaging on Egypt from day to day is a rollercoaster.
Hello, @travelgov.bsky.social anyone home?
Also i got an email from the STEP program this morning, “The State Department’s Travel Advisory for Egypt remains unchanged at Level 2.” WTF
Every month the United States provides even more reason to boycott its products and companies — the strikes on Iran being just the latest.
In light of that, it’s a great time to ditch the products and services of US tech companies. I made a comprehensive guide to help you.
i was once too broke to move from one apartment in a building down the hall to another post-breakup. moving isn’t cheap or particularly fun &, by and large, trans people aren’t doing great economically. 401,000 trans people fleeing their governments should be considered a fucking national emergency.
I got to talk to Alina for The Anti-Dystopians podcast. It was really fun and I hope y'all enjoy it!

"Moving forward, Oklahoma institutions without R1 status must offer fixed-term, renewable contracts. ... Tenured faculty members at Oklahoma’s two R1 institutions — the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University — will be subject to post-tenure review every five years."
During a dive last year in the Atlantic Ocean off Argentina, researchers documented a giant phantom jelly, a deep-sea species rarely seen since it was discovered a little over a century ago. “There was a mixture of excitement and disbelief,” said one marine biologist. trib.al/HfkWfp4
Media coverage of Gaza has plummeted. So today on @thenation.com, we're doing something pretty special: we're only running pieces by people in and from Gaza.
We're calling it "A Day for Gaza." You can find links to all of the incredible pieces here. Please read! www.thenation.com/article/worl...
The “we’re gonna need a bigger boat” meme from Jaws but boat scratched out and orca scribbled in.
““There was a car seat in the back with one of those baby blankets you get at the hospital. There were broken glass shards all over it,” he said. “I carefully pulled back the blanket and there was just this tiny peanut of a baby. He was crying.””

Every time I talk to someone outside of Minnesota, we always spend time on *really* basic things they have don’t understand about what is happening here.
So let’s do a Q&A. What are your most basic questions about what’s going on in Minnesota?
