Mail-in voting provides vital access to the polls for many voters, like people with disabilities, seniors, and those without reliable access to transportation. President Trump has no basis to interfere with that right, let alone co-opt the U.S. Postal Service to do so.

LWVMA was proud to testify today in support of Election Day Registration in front of the Special Committee on Initiative Petitions. Executive Director Celia Canavan testified about the dire need to enact Election Day Registration to protect the Commonwealth from federal attacks on voting rights.

Hamer is best known for her work advancing voting rights for people of color, notably drawing attention to/organizing around literacy tests and poll taxes that kept her and thousands of others from exercising their right to vote. 1/3

In a true display of intersectional activism, Scott King would later in life include LGBTQ+ activism, the Women's movement, economic relief, and opposition to apartheid in her activism work. Coretta is a powerful example of what commitment to empowerment, advancement, and equity looks like. (3/3)
Working alongside her husband as a civil rights activist, Scott King worked to utilize her talents as a musician to connect with other black women in the civil rights fight, and often advocated for her husband both in life and death. Scott King spearheaded MLK Day and founded the King Center. (2/3)
