Just hopped on here to say the same. Also do book banners know/care Morrison read/references the Bible, a sacred text that is now used for hateful agendas? #BelovedFebruary

Excited to join this dialogue. I hope I can stay focused enough throughout the month to re-read these important words.

Black Lives Matter At School National coalition organizing for racial justice in education.

Also I leaned so much from BLM at school who made their resources free or low cost and honored the many thought leaders who contributed. Including an Arabic translation I used at my current school a few years ago www.blacklivesmatteratschool.com/updates

I also set intentional reading goals in Feb but make sure to read Black voices all year. And I try to include all year in every book talk at least one Black voice. While ALSO trying to center Black women and trans folks.

A sign that says “prohibited on school grounds: alcoholic beverages, pets, and smoking/vaping”

A sign that says “prohibited on school grounds: alcoholic beverages, pets, and smoking/vaping”

Took a walk during lunch around school and tbh I get why schools don’t allow pets but the question is should they? At least outside in a contained area and they should be adorable dogs? For staff and students to pet?

Bookshop: Buy books online. Support local bookstores. An online bookstore that financially supports local independent bookstores and gives back to the book community.

Big news. Bookshop.org is now offering eBooks!

Bookshop is a big online consortium of indie bookstores. You shop like Amazon, but all the profits go to indies! There's no need to shop-- or to sell your books-- through Amazon again. I've used it for a couple years now.

Because when I was struggling in middle school and high school, I read books that glorified anorexia. They helped me become better at my disorder. They fueled the Voice. They hurt my heart.

When I train teachers about trauma-informed classrooms, I emphasize that you cannot simply declare that a person or a place is safe and make it so. People determine safety for themselves based on explicit and implicit cues of safety. (🧵 1/4)

Everything We Could A few words on Cecile Richards

My heart is broken for Cecile’s family - and for all of us. I wrote something over at the newsletter, but I don’t know that words can capture what a loss this is.

100% - I have tried to hard to navigate this thread carefully, signaling to some I'm an ally while avoiding appear "political." I feel for kids right now. And the Tiktok stunt is so hard to facilitate discussion about.

Appreciated this note at a Madison-area bookstore. This is still on my TBR along with Kelly Bishop & Ina Garten’s memoirs!
