The way I need this

The New Deal invested heavily in writers, photographers, artists, etc, to show the benefits of these programs for the American people. You sell policy like you do any other product. FDR understood that. I never have quite understood why so many of his successors failed to grasp this.

the quality of each star trek show is directly proportional to how often you see the characters engaging in hobbies

If one day we found out that the entrance to every Jersey diner was a portal that transported everyone to one single inter-dimensional diner that exists between space and time I would shrug and say yeah that tracks.

There’s gonna be some big uproar against Google which makes it basically impossible to block Google AI mode (aka where students can just copy and paste or upload screenshots to cheat) on chromebooks without blocking all of the other things that have Google as a domain like Google Classroom…

Australia S2 is very good, also I’ve heard good things about NZ. I watched a random Finnish episode I think too. Just avoid the American one.

Decided to skip trivia tonight. Went to eat at a more local place. Turns out…it’s trivia night there too. We play for fun and end up winning.

Losing SLACs (small liberal arts colleges) is absolutely a sign of American academia's decline and the gutting of the humanities in particular.
I'm pretty sure SLACs are a uniquely American phenomenon. Most countries don't have hundreds of small, non-research-oriented colleges dedicated to teaching.

One of the orange cats of @theflytrapmedia.com needs your help, comrades! Emergency vet care and hospitalization for Samwise will be pricey and Kate shouldn't have to stress out about that on top of worrying about a beloved feline friend.

Commission a Doctor Who or Star Trek review - Olivia Anne Gennaro's Ko-fi Shop I have loved both Doctor Who and Star Trek since I was 13, but there’s a lot I haven’t seen…or haven’t seen for a while! I’ve always wanted to watch/r...

I love Doctor Who and Star Trek, and I love watching/rewatching them in a random order and doing a deep dive. So I decided…how about YOU decide which episode(s) I watch and write about? Commission a review, it’s questionably cheap and goes to a good place!

Book censorship has so many far-reaching consequences, especially in the world of children’s publishing. Whoever your audience, if you’re an author you should be screaming about this.

Solve for work There is no written word without a weary hand wielding the pen.

Great essay from @nikostratis.com on writing as labor in the AI age.

This infuriating attitude shows up on the bookshelves in learning environments, too. We expect girls to empathize with boys, but we kneecap every opportunity to let boys empathize with girls. And look where we are.

Just to be clear, every YA author and publishing professional worth their salt hates this condescending bullshit.

Long time, no writing hello again

Finally wrote a newsletter update.
1. I'm busy, but I'm trying to write again!
2. Do you have something tedious you would like to hire me for?
3. Media keeping me going.

I also love typing stuff up/transcription. Used to do it with court records every week.

I miss copyediting so much. I get genuine joy out of it.

So I guess if you’re an author and you want something edited I would be happy to do it!!

I have experience as an English teacher who knows too much grammar and as a former newspaper reporter who helped with edits.

Start work at a new job next week, but just had a major bill come out in the meantime. With new work, hopefully the last time I'll need to ask, but I gotta ask. Its been a long year of hospitals and bad surprises, but almost to the other side. Help me get there. #mutualaid
