There's a troubling trend of governments keeping national security and intelligence reports related to the climate crisis under wraps, @rsanta.bsky.social reports for @thebulletin.org
Excellent to see a direct question being asked of the Government. Based on the response, the next Q should why they think that's enough when 75% of businesses across the country have taken no account of climate in their strategic planning.
Agree. Very much 'we've got this covered - nothing to see here'.

"In this episode of Weathered Maiya May talks with civilization collapse researcher @lukekemp.bsky.social & strategic climate risk expert @laurielaybourn.bsky.social about why high-end warming scenarios are often dismissed as “doomerism,” even though worst-case planning is standard in most fields"
The heat energy we added to the ocean LAST YEAR is the equivalent of:
- Detonating ten hydrogen bombs every minute
- operating over a hundred large power plants continuously for all of written human history
- Five times all the electricity human beings have ever used
This thread responds to Prof. Christian Dunn’s Telegraph piece on #climate communication.
I argue it misdiagnoses public disengagement, underplays escalating scientific risk, & reproduces a media narrative that has actively shaped, not merely reflected, public resistance to climate action 🧵
Plastic Unfantastic
Pollution from this illegitimate child of the fossil fuel industry looks like it's reducing photosynthesis by 12%.
Nothing to see here. Move on.

Happy St.Davids day to friends and fellow citizens of this fragile world. David was born on the coast near the tiny jewel of a city that bears his name, his last words were 'do the little things you remember me by. Good advice.
Germany’s likely next chancellor, Friedrich Merz, assured his support to Zelenskyy, saying: “We must never confuse the aggressor and the victim in this terrible war.” (Guardian)

The Gift of Uncertainty //
What are the skills, mindsets and connections we need to help young people to grow so they can build regenerative futures at a time of greater uncertainty than the world has seen for 75 years?

Seek to understand the footprints and negative externalities of the products and services that you take for granted. Many of them are likely to have a dark side impact that's not on the label.

Apparently, it's one of the best ways to make risk lower...FFS. The level of risk loading that's happening as a consequence of current decisions is going to blow people's minds when they experience the consequences of what they're saying yes to today.
Such a great closing gift. From the other side of the Atlantic, I deeply appreciate what you did.
H5N1 Bird Flu Spreads Rapidly Through California Dairy Herds
The USDA has confirmed that five more dairy herds in California are infected, bringing the total number to 732.
As of now, 74% of the state's dairy herds have tested positive for the virus.
Regulation isn't fit for purpose.
I spent six years on the board of an environmental regulator. It's clear that even if every business adhered to every pice of legislation, nature and communities would die, just more slowly. We need regs that inescapably drive regeneration, not elimination.
My friend/colleague Andrew Boswell is right. Starmer is adopting the very worst HardRight trope:
It’s outrageous of Starmer to say that Andrew is doing this for himself! He doesn’t do all this dangerous, exhausting, expensive work for selfish reasons!! He does it for Nature & our children’s future.
Let's hope CAN can.
Today the UK government will hear the second reading of the Climate & Nature Bill. It's landmark proposal places legal responsibility on government to act in line with science, not easy votes. Fingers crossed for nature. & future gen. commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-bri...

You can say, “gravity isn’t real,” but if you step off the cliff, you’re still going down.
And if you convince other people it’s not real, you are responsible for what happens if they make decisions based on the information you withheld.
Topical Word of the Day...

Thanks for the re-share. If I remember rightly, participants had 32 hours of training in the system awareness / conditions that might influence their direction and thinking. Those they were trying to influence probably had none. Maybe the design process needs to change...
