Oh that's great news. On his day not many better and he'll have some much needed competition next season too. Will make a big difference to summer plans as well. Phew.

So LFC have a devaluing asset in Grav sit on the bench / be loaned with LFC contributing to his wages and/or eventually sold for v little so the buying club can pay him the money saved in fee in wages.

And we have a slow player playing in the left forward position.

Perfect.

You said Cherki had the platform to perform as a 10. My point is Wirtz won't with Gravenberch in the midfield.

I agree Wirtz can play from the left but he's very slow and pace in wide areas should be a priority and I'd prefer to see him as a 10.

You can ignore the Grav issue but it won't go away.

Wirtz definitely needs to be given the platform to perform by building the midfield around him.

Pretty certain that doesn't include Gravenberch though who is currently the highest paid midfielder on the longest contract.

But I also think it's fair to say we all expected much more for ยฃ116m.

Yeah that excuse can apply in derbies

That's the double over Everton this season. That makes me feel better.

Not the best performance but definitely not the worst.

This season has basically been all about 5th so a huge win.

Whatever the reasoning for giving him that contract genuinely makes me fear for the future of the club.

Gravenberch has been horrible since Slotball kicked in for real circa Feb 2025.

They are knackered. Every game somewhere between 60 and 70 mins the players are basically done.

No he mustn't until 70

The home games haven't exactly been a picnic.

The tactic "if we are fortunate enough to take a lead when playing like shit - we should pass it around doing bugger all until they score" seems a bit floored to me.

I'd no idea Gakpo could do that. Great vision

Rabbits have more energy. Sloths

Ha! Excellent point

Building up in a 3 is not the same as defending in a 3!

If they do hire him then - obviously - a back 3 is likely! My point is in many, many decades LFC have used a 3 consistently with one other manager only.

So if it's someone else then I'd imagine Alonso's preferred formation is a big reason.

If Alonso had been a success at Leverkusen playing 433/4231 I'd be incredibly excited at the prospect of him joining.

To shift to a back 3 is a pretty big change - not least if it doesn't work out.

If we buy some wingers we will know.
Personally I like teams with wingers not wingbacks.

There probably isn't a concern-free coach that Liverpool could realistically get.

Of all the coaches in the Prem League Iraola is probably the best/realistic choice given how his teams play.

There are more popular picks but 3 at the back also comes with risk.

Iraola definitely ticks boxes.

The fitness/injury issues really doesn't bother me. Slot's methods are meant to reduce injuries & yet he constantly uses them as an excuse. And the trade off is a lack of training so the players can't manage 90 mins anymore.

I'd be comfortable with Iraola and his methods if he's the one.

Don is someone else ๐Ÿ˜

He'd definitely be on a short list. But back up I'd imagine.

I reckon most LFC fans have enjoyed watching Bournemouth. He coaches players and improves them, doesn't need star names. Personally I prefer that.

But he lacks European experience and playing twice a week. Hasn't won anything

Or it could mean everything Kev! EVERYTHING.

Lib that's a joke.

Yes

4 days ago 0 0 2 0

Incidentally who hired Iraola?

4 days ago 0 0 1 0

No one actually knows anything.

For me the biggest hint that FSG don't see him as a long term coach is that contract talks ended once the results turned. Results are still bad.

But if he gets 5th and the team plays better as of now - who knows.

Lose badly to Everton - that may decide things.

It's not really a surprise the team gives up is it.

We've gone from -never know when we are beaten - to - look how well we played in the 2nd leg for 20 mins.

I loved that season. The hope!

Talking of poor seasons by Klopp - when we finished 3rd & played the final third of the season with two academy players in central defence.

Imagine that now - 10 points worse off - Slot sat in press conferences telling us we're lucky because 15th isn't relegation!

Oh the excuse that infuriated me the most and is why I had to stop watching his nonsense:

"Injuries mean I have to pick the same players all season (which is why the team can't press or whatever)."

He literally picked the same 11 for the majority of last season.

The man never rotates! Grrrr

He's deluded because he fundamentally believes if it weren't for reasons A B C or D then we'd be winning every game.

Unfortunately these reasons are inescapable for a CL club. 3 games a week, injuries, TV schedules, VAR decisions etc

So in reality he is actually telling fans we will never win.

I watch post match.

He's become passive aggressive and sarcastic despite the fact he gets a pretty easy ride.

You say he gaslights fans but I actually think he's deluded about how well he thinks he and his team are performing compared to reality.

But does Hughes see it? God I hope so.

Let me guess

We did amazingly to even compete with PSG and showed amazing character to even turn up.

We won on xG and possession.

We definitely would have won if it weren't for bad luck.

We would have won if we didn't have to play 3 games in a week.

We were the fittest we've been all season.
