I love the 1926 census. I love this period of Irish history! I love the fervour with which people translate their English names into Irish. I love when people write 'single' for their baby's marital status and then frantically cross it out. I love finding a woman with a job that isn't domestic help

My main takeaway from the past week is that I really love living in a high-tax society that allows things like agriculture and the arts to be subsidised! (genuine and earnest tweet)

my heart says it's completely fine to dick around on the BIA if that's what it enables you to do... my head says I am also definitely curious to see some of the finished artworks that are yet to emerge from the pilot, if/when they emerge

Basic income for arts scheme ‘causing segregation’ and open to abuse, officials told One artist says housemate is availing of the scheme even though they do ‘not appear to be actively engaged in any creative practice’

are you gonna have time to make any good art if you're so busy being concerned with whether or not your housemate is engaged in active artistic practice? www.irishtimes.com/culture/art/...

perhaps a small group of self-employed people dissatisfied with their profession's trade unions and organisations shouldn't be able to shut down the city centre for days on end... perhaps...

Fun to see all the reactionary elements the government has spent years stoking in order to destroy any chance of a united opposition to the housing crisis turning on the government because of the fallout of a war the government refused to really condemn. Politics eh?

If climate protesters had blocked roads for as long as the fuel protesters did, there would be people on the radio demanding the army be called in to shoot them all

I love the Unhedged podcast. 25 mins of doom about how death raining from the skies is impacting the markets and then "... and now it's time for Long/Short. This week I'm LONG on shorts in the office and SHORT chewing gum."

I'm delighted to see more and more voters in the UK wake up to the fact that the Green Party is a well-organised, big thinking, progressive party - a real party!!! - that represents their interests. Go on Hannah Spencer!

the magic of the Muppets is that there are two fourth walls. they constantly break the one that reminds the audience they are performers. they NEVER break the one that reminds the audience they are puppets. this dynamic is the key to their entire comedy style

"if you feed this stag we will kill him"

I also think Fáilte Ireland should be involved, there's a clear responsibility there. God I'm so annoyed and worried about this. I need to get a life. But leave the deer alone, please!!!

It definitely seems that some visitors to Dublin believe that feeding the deer in Phoenix Park is allowed and perhaps even encouraged - it is absolutely not! The OPW's inertia on this issue is damaging our city's wildlife and soon there'll be no turning the clock back.

I (former comms strategy person) would not use vague idiomatic language for any sign that is communicating something so important - the confusion is not worth whatever cutesy benefit you think you're getting. And the deer are suffering! Their antlers are getting smaller through eating chocolate!

currently the signs use confusing idiomatic language along the lines of 'the buck stops here - don't feed the deer' which is vague and unclear even to English speakers

Phoenix Park deers’ behaviour ‘altered by people feeding them chocolate and crisps’ Stags fed low-quality food have smaller antlers, impacting their mating success, according to UCD study

I've unfortunately become obsessed with this and can't stop worrying about it. Two things are urgently needed 1) signs in many languages telling you not to feed the deer 2) on-the-spot €100 fines for anyone who does www.irishtimes.com/ireland/dubl...

I had this idea years ago but still back it. 'Community bonds', saving scheme, you buy £100, govt invests £100 in the high street, you get £110 back in five years' time.

Being a journalist is sick: I just contacted a pre-eminent jaguar conservationist in Argentine with a question that has been weighing on me for ages and he wrote back right away with an informed answer.
