We ran a randomized controlled trial to see how much AI coding tools speed up experienced open-source developers.

The results surprised us: Developers thought they were 20% faster with AI tools, but they were actually 19% slower when they had access to AI than when they didn't.

This is terrible. It’s bad for workers and it’s bad for the economy.

"If you deport all the undocumented immigrants, food will cost more bc Americans will demand better pay to pick crops."

Ok. So. Food prices *should* go up, morally, bc right now our food is subsidized by desperate workers earning unfair wages. We shouldn't deport, obviously, but we should pay more.

The cover of John Scofield’s album, A Go Go

Now listening - one of Scofield’s best, with the inimitable Medeski Martin and Wood as his backing band

So good. Hottentot (track 8) was my first introduction to Scofield and MMW long ago

Notre Dame in Paris re-opens this wkd.
I'm a cathedral nerd. Here are some things that you might not notice about it – just from that one photo.
THREAD.

1. You can see straight down the nave to the apse. No medieval English cathedral has that.

Theologians used to write detailed allegorical explanations of what every tiny thing in the Mass meant and why. These explanations overlapped and contradicted because symbols don’t mean one thing, and cuz making symbols into more allegories is like putting a hat on a hat. This has the same energy.

It's day 3 of the War on Christmas.

Today, we saw our first shipments of new weapons. Generic Snow Globe grenades. They are just a snowy forest.

My personal favorite are the "Seasons Greetings" missles. The last thing elf eyes will see.

The holidays are for everyone and our weapons reflect that

My absolute favorite part of the dead salmon wearing trend (scientists are, as the article says, reasonably sure it's a fashion trend) is not that orcas have fashion, it's that they, too, have the occasional wave of 80s nostalgia.

Well I bought a keyboard and it 100% screwed our already overcrowded little apartment.

Worth it but also pray for my wife.

I have never seen Wicked and I have no opinion of it, but I enjoyed this thread nonetheless.

Being an entertaining hater is a thin line, and twitter used to be the place to see it done well. Hopefully we can reclaim some of that here in time.

No one:
Absolutely no one:
Me, watching Sleeping Beauty, a harmless children’s cartoon: what do you think the economic impact was to the kingdom when they burned all the looms? Do you think they had to turn to cloth imports, creating a trade deficit which destabilized the nascent industrial econ—

Bluesky Network Analyzer Find accounts that you don't follow (yet) but are followed by lots of accounts that you do follow.

You can find starter packs for different topics here and there, and once you’ve followed a decent handful of folk this can help fill in gaps.
