israel is run by expansionist fascists who (correctly) see a lasting peace as the death of their cause, & they'll do anything to avoid it. it is so invested in domestic US politics because it can't afford a president who is willing to cut off aid or weapons. israel needs a forever war
First mowing of the grass of this year is now a success.
18. Re-read as part of a Book Club event at EasterCon. Jesus Christ this still hits hard. Still one of the pieces of art that permanently changed my brain chemistry. A slower pace that expected when I first read, but works in its favour. 5/5
Especially on any women characters I’d like to portray. As funnily enough, historical records on ALL Roman women are quite fleeting, at least compared to the men.
Every time I go to EasterCon (admittedly just twice now) I get the spur to write the vague Sci-Fi novel I have knocking around.
However, given it’s largely Early Republican Rome but with Sci-Fi setting, that’d involve a LOT of research on early Roman history.
As someone who’s learning Italian, Languages and Multilingualism at @easterconuk.bsky.social is fun.
I need all the art for my new office. So make that 3 now.
Cracking Disco by @mikebrooks668.bsky.social at @easterconuk.bsky.social tonight. Had to tap out a little earlier than anticipated after giving *everything* to Turisas’ Rasputin.
One of the few good things the US does.
Based off my experience here at the previous @dwcon.org, yes. All the yes.
As an adopted Brummie, really?
This seems far too good to be true.
Oversimplified explanation:
Labour had a golden opportunity when they came to power to be *checks notes* not shit.
But they chose to be *double checks notes* shit.
Centrists never learn.
A woman in the Caffè Nero in town tried to eat a decorative coffee bean from just behind the counter.
Never change Birmingham.
Also, just move on. The Potter books are not as good as you remember them being (see video).
There is also a vast sea of art and literature that’s just objectively better and created by someone infinitely more considerate & compassionate to their fellow humans. - youtu.be/-1iaJWSwUZs?...
Re: my last reposts
“Do not put money in the pocket of a woman who has sworn publicly to use it to disenfranchise vulnerable populations” is the smallest ask imaginable. It’s not oxygen, it’s not food. It’s television. You can do without. There are thousands of other shows for you to watch.
Also, they really don’t need a new Potter series.
The main films finished less than 14 years ago.
The spin off series with Newt Scamander was canned just *4* years ago.
Money grabbing bastards.
First they came for the billionaires
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a billionaire
Then they came for the millionaires
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a millionaire
Then it was kinda chill for a bit,
we started a community garden, everyone learned to make pierogies.
Nice.
This. Don’t get me wrong, as a millennial, I’m tempted to watch just the trailer. But don’t boost their stats.
Don’t give them anything.
Rowling’s using her money to directly fund hate and the curtailing of people’s rights.
17. Better than I expected. There are some bits that are showing their age, in an unfortunate manner, but really compelling outside of that. 4/5
16. I appreciate what they’re trying to do. But not for me I’m afraid.
Yassssss! @aptshadow.bsky.social
Turns out I’m waiting on 7 book pre-orders throughout the next 6 months.
I don’t have a problem. Maybe you’re the one with the problem!
The eternal reminder that there’s a special place in hell for anyone who plays music or a video out loud on any form of public transport.
May they be damned for all of time.
A dark green Starship Alexandria t-shirt on a blue bedsheet.
Oh yeah, it’s all coming together.
15. My singular “criticism” of this book is that there are a lot of view-point characters & I struggled to keep track of them all. But I suspect that’s more a me problem.
@mikebrooks668.bsky.social knocks it out of the park again. The world building, characterisation and twists are on point 5/5
Very jelly Scotland if you get this.
If you’re in Scotland vote @scottishgreens.org!
The standard reactionary playbook. Always shifting topic so as to not be on the back foot and the assertion of their absolute moral certainty and “facts” that have no basis in *actual* reality.
This was in the context of the “Greens wanting to legalise all drugs”
Me - “I think they want to regulate them actually”
“But they’re incredibly dangerous”
Me - “Most of them are far safer than alcohol”
And then we had stories about how drug users stick their babies in ovens.
