What immediately comes to mind is PERFECT DAYS, a movie that lives up to the first word in its title.

Panel from WEST COAST AVENGERS #33 when the team is arrested by the Hungarian Secret Police.
Opening splash page from WEST COAST AVENGERS #34, when half of the team is released by the Hungarian Secret Police.
A big congratulations to Hungary! We're hoping the new government will finally apologize for how they treated the West Coast Avengers.
Some beautiful editions you have there.
I'm worried about my job search, but for all I know, I'm going to be the guy chained to the front of the car in the upcoming Gas Wars.
I can only hope that, as the hot wind blows against my naked body at 85 miles per hour, I can take a moment to laugh at all these silly applications I filled out.
Three Johnny Cash albums and a record player.
Today’s as good as any day to get spiritual…
My attorney has told me to stop responding to the allegations that we stole 12 tons worth of KitKats. My t̶e̶a̶m̶family and I are taking a “break” and have retired to an island.
I’ve made it my mission to get this song stuck in everyone’s head this weekend.
Did you get it?
We all know he loves an island.
If you feel like directly supporting things that are made by real humans with love & care—with no ads, hot takes, or AI—a reminder that we're still dealing with the effects of this, and that literally every subscription gets us that much closer to ensuring we can keep doing this for awhile!
I always think about the video of when they landed. William Shatner is getting emotional trying to explain what the experience meant to him, and Bezos just interrupts him by spraying champagne everywhere.
Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) is sitting on a barge while typing up a book. The sun is descending behind him.
Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy), seemingly done writing, is standing on the barge in front of his typewriter. He is living the writer's dream.
My favorite part of THE IMMORTAL MAN is when Tommy is writing his book with a typewriter on a barge.
Like a real writer.
ME: ... and get some friends together. Go to school in the evening and completely switch two classrooms next to one another, furniture, posters, and all so that they're mirror images of the other.
KIDS: Did you do that?
ME: Mmmmmaaaaybe.
MY KIDS: For April Fools, one of us is going to ask to go the bathroom at school, and when the teacher says OK, the whole class is going to get up and leave.
ME: Oh...that's cute.
KIDS: Well, what would you do?
ME: I don't know. I guess I'd get the keys to the school...

Same for Predator, which will be as old as Miracle on 34th Street was in 1987.
This week’s @blankcheck.bsky.social with Jennifer Kent completely leveled up the Peter Weir season. Kent provided the right context at exactly the right time to really appreciate Weir’s filmography as we transition from his Australian work to his Hollywood movies. I hope Kent returns.

"Last time I checked, there was supposed to be an Old Navy? A Salvation Army? Where are they? And where is Colonel Sanders? Or General Tso for that matter?"
Hey, my posts here are just one bad take after another. Get in line!
But yeah, I see him blaming the creators. I get what you’re saying, Nick.
I don’t know. Maybe I’m being dense today or just know that Thompson is typically a thoughtful guy (and a great writer). I’m reading it differently.
I wouldn’t go there. I get what Thompson is getting at. It’s more of an indictment about modern audiences than a criticism of writers.
This reminds me of the SEINFELD finale when it basically said, “Hey, you know these characters that you’ve loved for nearly a decade? You realize that they were terrible people, right?” And viewers were like, “Wait, what? This finale sucks!”
So happy see some love for Martin. Nobody talks about her work enough.
HoL is an all-timer for me. OR is great, but I feel like the device gets in the way of connecting with the story. I haven't read his FAMILIAR series yet, but I heard good things. He also has THE 50-YEAR SWORD which is also a lot of fun.

He's written six books since then, and this one just might be his best work (though House of Leaves is a favorite of mine).
Two and a half months and 1200 pages later, I finally finished TOM’S CROSSING.
This was one of the most profound and satisfying reading experiences I’ve ever had.
Finished it and then took the dog for a walk, and almost worked myself into tears thinking about the story.
Two kids sitting on the floor reading books. A wall of books is in the background, and there's a ladder.
Since it's #WorldBookDay, here's one of my favorite pictures of my kids.
A stack of books, including BUTTER by Asako Yuzuki THE VEGETARIAN by Han Kang THE DANGERS OF SMOKING IN BED by Mariana Enriquez BUBBA AND THE COSMIC BLOOD SUCKERS by Joe R. Lansdale
Slowly wrapping up Danielewski’s latest book and getting the reading pile ready…
I’m confident the message will be received with the next letter…
