Most people walk through Parliament Square in London without a second thought. Churchill, Lincoln, Gandhi, and then there’s Nelson Mandela.
But his story here didn’t begin with a statue.

Did you know that Banqueting House is the only surviving fragment of a royal palace that was once larger than Versailles, that Pocahontas attended a performance there in 1617, or that Charles I's last moments were here?

Gerard Street, Chinatown, London
I carry a coin, a silver starter from the Durotriges, from around 50 BC, feel its time pass through my skin, incredible to handle such a thing, imagine its journey and the world in which it came from.
That is amazing to see I will pop down and visit later in the spring when I get a chance. The history of this area is deeply fascinating. To think traders were visiting here in the times of the ancient mediterranean empires, how connected this world seemed to be, how important this location once was
There's a roundhouse at Hengistbury Head? I never knew, is it open for visits through the year, looks awesome
Old and new, Spitalfield, London
Horizon 22 at London’s Bishopsgate. A gift to myself after long hours working on a big project. On a blustery London afternoon I packed my old canon and the 70-200mm lense. The view was clear and sharp. I must confess, I found it as interesting photographing the visitors, as I did the view itself.

A year ago a film I made about a tiny little garden beside St Paul’s Cathedral unexpectedly went viral.
Hidden there is a Roman pavement, a sculpture by Jacob Epstein, and a 3,000-year-old Assyrian brick. Its a remarkable little corner of the City.

Found a picture of a walk taken a few years ago, the forgotten heat and sound of that afternoon comes back to me

Have you ever visited any Charlie Chaplin locations in London?
Charlie Chaplin’s childhood began here, in West Square, Lambeth. Before Hollywood, he was a little boy growing up in South London, a world of music halls hardship and workhouses that would inspire the Little Tramp and change cinema forever.

Hidden in Hampstead is the grave of John Harrison, the self-taught clockmaker who solved longitude and made modern navigation possible.
An outsider in a world of elite science, his work helped map the Earth and still shapes GPS today.
One of London’s overlooked figures.

I still utter a little wow when it comes into view. But then the landscape all around there means I'm saying 'wow' quite a few times. Must have been an amazing time excavating there. I wonder what it was for, who commissioned it and most of all - what it was called.
Thank you for sharing
Wonderful to read
Wow that’s crazy! The more you read the more you realise we were hopeless at supplying tech and gear to the differing theatres. Absolutely awful at being able to do things in a timely manner!
a truly awful episode in our military history, was it bungling from above? there are caveats of our history so conveniently forgotten
looks very nice, swanning around in a river, appreciate Wind in the Willows and Ratty
thats a grand little hippo
absolutely beautiful, great light as well
Researching John Clare and Alfred Tennyson led me to Holy Innocents, High Beech, on the last day of sunshine. A peaceful corner of Epping Forest.
