Ditch Uber and Lyft, get yourself onto the Drivers Co-op app instead. Most of your fare will go to the driver, instead of to the corporation who will then use your proceeds to lobby for higher prices and less worker protections.

It's 2026. That money has still not hit the bank. Presumably it's a bequest on death but a) $6 million in 1988 is not worth the same in 2026, b) this is a great example of why fundraising for nonprofits is largely smoke and mirrors and we should tax billionaires appropriately.
1. Boy, Amazon is in a heap of trouble. Evidence made public yesterday by California AG @agrobbonta.oag.ca.gov shows blatant price fixing. And there are so many examples. Here's Amazon scheming with a pet food supplier to get Chewy to raise its prices.
“Israel’s failure to prosecute settlers who attacked Palestinians in the West Bank led to the country’s former prime minister, Ehud Olmert, calling for the international criminal court to intervene to save Palestinians from “Jewish terrorists”, in an interview with the Guardian.”
This is damning.

New from me: “When AI-driven algorithms are deployed to set prices “just for you” as a consumer or to determine the best wage “just for you” as a worker, the corporate objective is not your best interest. Not by a long shot.”

The Supreme Court will decide whether Colorado violated the First Amendment's free exercise clause by requiring schools participating in its universal pre-K program to abide by a non-discrimination policy that Catholic schools reject. (Exceedingly ominous.) www.supremecourt.gov/orders/court...

I am forever saying that if refusal isn't a live option in any decision making process about "AI", then no ethical practice is possible. You've got to be able to stop if the thing is unacceptable.
“The liability issue is intimately tied to the question on whether the chatbot encourages acts of violence by concretizing an action plan.”
the thing about our current moment is that yes, the anti-AI and anti-big tech people are getting very reactive nowadays - but have you seen what they’re *reacting* to?
personally I agree that we should indeed reject the hollow pluralism of pretending that we shouldn't judge Klan, Nazi, and sparkling eugenicist subcultures according to what they have historically produced, and would enthusiastically endorse rejecting inclusion of them in public life
1/9 of 1/3 of the government has the expressly stated understanding that his job is to literally make the lives of 5/8 of the country miserable. you don't have to tolerate this
NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani on Newsmakers: “To be told a city-run grocery store is implausible, but $500 million a day to kill people in Iran and Lebanon is necessary speaks to a broken politics.”
The Israeli army struck civilians in the Lebanese city of Mayfadoun.
And then, the Israelis double-tapped the medics who arrived onto the scene.
And then, they triple-tapped the next wave of medics.
And then, they did it one more time for good measure.
Yet another ICE inmate death is ruled a homicide by medical examiners.
