Holding the small book Neurodiversity: A Very Short Introduction by Robert Chapman and Sue Fletcher-Watson.

Holding the small book Neurodiversity: A Very Short Introduction by Robert Chapman and Sue Fletcher-Watson.

New arrival by @drrobertchapman.bsky.social & @suereviews.bsky.social, a brief authoritative text. As far as we know, 1st general academic introduction to neurodiversity studies as distinct field w/ its own body of scholarship. Recommended!
Full disclosure: I reviewed it, applying my due diligence.

“Our research shows that families who face the greatest barriers to accessing SEND provision for their children are often those least able to access legal advice about their rights. As a result, children/YP may be at greater risk of missing out on the education they are entitled to by law.”

Historians Unearth a Conflict of Interest, Prompting a Retraction by The Lancet Journal The journal retracted an unsigned 1977 commentary claiming that talcum powder poses no serious health risks, despite robust contemporaneous scientific evidence to the contrary.

“The journal’s retraction was prompted by a December 8 email from Markowitz and Rosner to the journal, which identified a glaring conflict of interest. They presented evidence that the commentary was written by a consultant paid by Johnson & Johnson” @profgoldberg.bsky.social

Anyone else’s first thought was cortex….!!

Children are beings not becomings. They're not doing a 'job' of getting ready for school because all the evidence on early child development says they need to be playing, moving, having fun and building relationships. Focus on being ready to meet children's needs not the other way around.

I can see it on the blog about translation - but is there a page to send parents to directly? Thanks! It looks excellent.

Hi. This looks really helpful. Would you be able to post a link to the English version as well? I would like to include both for families in our service (I can’t find it!!).

Or even if you can find it…. Much happiness (and collaborations) come from an email saying ‘your new paper is really interesting and has powerful real-world impact.’

- hearing experiences and insights from patients who have taken part in research,
- a national update from DHSC,
- a discussion on workforce,
- workshops on emerging leadership, digital/AI trials, mental health research and research culture.

Look out for updates over the next two days. #UKRDSummit

Looks really interesting, but young people’s voices don’t seem to be centred in this debate. “This conference brings together scholars, activists and NGOs.”

This place has exactly the same energy as the Palace would have done when it was newly built.

Hi. What format will this be in? No reason it should be free, but I’m looking for a free resource to link to in a Padlet I’m putting together. Thanks!

As a neurodevelopmental paediatrician it will need including in all medical history taking and differential diagnoses. Only 77% vaccination rate in over 2 year olds where I work - (and under 1s not yet vaccinated) 😩

Subacute Sclerosing Pan-Encephalitis (SSPE) SSPE is a progressive form of encephalitis without a cure. Despite multiple attempts, no satisfactory treatment has been developed.

As a paediatrician I have never seen a child with this. 😩

SSPE can be prevented by good uptake of the measles vaccination.

“Tested alone, LLMs complete the scenarios accurately, correctly identifying conditions in 94.9% of cases … on average. However, participants using the same LLMs identified relevant conditions in fewer than 34.5% of cases… - both no better than the control group.”

“we recommend systematic human user testing to evaluate interactive capabilities before public deployments in healthcare.”
Turns out that this needs saying.

Has the MRC research funding ‘pause’ been covered by any major news network?

It feels like it should be a major news story

On social media bans. The 13yo goes to special school where pupils come from far & wide - the kind of apps being discussed are those he uses for group chat after school, boosting his literacy and socialisation. He also loves making & sharing TikTok videos, one of his only creative/social outlets.

Put community repair shops on every high street. Our work shows people love it, increases community interaction & helps people keep essential goods going for longer giving them more money to spend on food & utility bills It reduces waste and so reduces local authority costs. It is a win, win, win.
