Dr. Cerina Wanzer Fairfax was a devoted mother and dentist whose life was tragically cut short because guns make domestic violence more deadly.
My heart breaks for her family, especially her two teenage children –– who now have to navigate a world without their mother. etwn.us/3QgSwvl

Dr. Cerina Fairfax, 49, was shot and killed by her husband — former Virginia Lieutenant Governor Justin Fairfax — who then turned the gun on himself last night at their home in Annandale, Virginia. Authorities said the couple’s two teenage children were at home when the shooting occurred.
Guns are the leading killer of college-aged people in this country, but it doesn’t have to be this way. We hold the victims and survivors in our hearts today and every day as we fight to ensure our schools and communities are free from the threat of gun violence.

Nineteen years ago today, 32 students and educators were shot and killed and 17 others were wounded on the campus of Virginia Tech — the deadliest mass shooting at a school in modern American history. The shooter used two semi-automatic pistols: A 9mm Glock 19 and a 22-caliber Walther P22.
“These laws show what’s possible when communities demand action and elected leaders respond.” - Moms Demand Action Executive Director Angela Ferrell-Zabala
We won’t allow gun lobbyists — or their allies in Congress — to twist common-sense laws into baseless attacks on the Second Amendment.
We’ve fought too hard to pass these protections — and we will not allow them to be dismantled.
On Capitol Hill today, our volunteers showed up at a Senate hearing as leaders of gun extremist groups argued for rolling back life-saving gun safety laws.
Whenever our progress is threatened, we are in the room.
When will our lawmakers stand up to the gun lobby so our educators don’t have to stand up to gunmen?
No one should fear being shot at a birthday party. We remember and honor the lives taken that day in Dadeville as we continue the fight to #EndGunViolence.
At least two guns were equipped with illegal “switches,” devices that turn pistols into machine guns capable of firing up to 1,200 rounds a minute. Last year, Alabama Governor Kay Ivey signed a bill banning these deadly devices.

Another future, full of promise, taken by our nation's preventable gun violence crisis.
This shooting took place just one week after the four-year-mark of the mass shooting in downtown Sacramento that took the lives of six people and wounded 12 others. No family, no school, no community should have to endure the trauma of gun violence time and time again.
Sixteen-year-old De'Jon Sledge was shot and killed by a student at Natomas High School in Sacramento, CA on Friday. De’Jon attended another school nearby.
"My son was caring. He was passionate. He was determined to walk the right path," said De’Jon’s devastated mom.
This is the reality we’re living in. As long as guns remain so easily accessible to anyone, no place is truly safe — not our schools, not our streets, not even a quick stop at a restaurant. We cannot accept this as normal.
One person was killed and six others were wounded in a shooting at a New Jersey Chick-fil-A on Saturday. Police say the person who was killed was the intended target — but employees and other bystanders were caught in the crossfire.
“Studies have shown that assault weapons make mass violence more deadly, and that places where these bans have been in place, including the federal one for a period of ten years, did reduce mass shootings and fatalities that come from that.” - Mike Fox, Virginia Moms Demand Action volunteer
Our kids and teachers deserve safe learning environments where they can thrive—not live in fear. Find out more about the dangers of arming teachers from @everytown.org: buff.ly/3sfqFRH
Despite lawmakers continuously pushing this as a reactionary response to school shootings, there is ZERO evidence that forcing guns into classrooms protects children at school. Arming teachers introduces serious risks for students, educators, and entire school communities.
“With one tiny, Lego-sized switch, these firearms can wreak unfathomable harm. This is not a hypothetical problem. Law enforcement across the state are recovering these conversion devices in record numbers.” - Chaplain Denise Reid, gun violence survivor & Maryland Moms Demand Action volunteer
Black Americans are almost three times more likely to be shot and killed by police than white Americans. In his honor, we continue to fight for a future that’s safe from all forms of gun violence.
“April 11 was the worst day of my life,” said Daunte’s mother, Katie. “A police officer who's supposed to serve and protect someone took so much away from us. She took our baby boy with a single gunshot through his heart, and she shattered mine. My life and my world will never ever be the same."
Five years ago today, 20-year-old Daunte Wright was shot and killed by a police officer during a traffic stop in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. The officer responsible for his death was found guilty of first- and second-degree manslaughter.
“Maryland is taking an innovative step to stop the sale of ‘convertible’ pistols that are easily transformed into weapons of war. We applaud the House for prioritizing the safety of Maryland families over the profits of negligent manufacturers.” - Monisha Henley, SVP, @Everytown.org
Our Rhode Island volunteers are keeping the pressure on lawmakers to pass gun safety legislation this session that will save lives:
“Gun violence is a public health crisis,” said volunteer Amy Herlihy.
An important conversation to have as kids make plans with friends for the weekend!
We hold those who were killed and whose lives were forever changed that day in our hearts. No one should have to fear being shot in their place of work. In honor of the Louisville community, we continue our work to #EndGunViolence.
