One of *many* things to despise about Microsoft Teams is its insanely wide angle shot for video calls, to make sure it captures your bed and old coffee cups.

Welcome to website design 101! Now, any visitor to a website is usually there for one specific thing: for cinemas it’s film times, for schools it’s term times, and so on… our job is to make that information as hard to come by as possible if it’s even there at all
So people aren’t going to be like “oooh maybe a robot CAN write poetry…”
PSA to AI bros: you can endlessly insult culture because we’re generally unwisely polite and dialectal but when you start coming for sport you’re going to get your butts handed to you in a satchel. You’ll just be a big load of satchel-butts.
The only thing to avoid is angering the gods, but with a little diplomacy and careful PR we’d probs get away with it
And then if someone could work out how to make a kind of orange glowing thing that cooks meat and keeps us from freezing in winter or at night… we’d just be well away as a species I reckon
Oh wow if only we could invent something that didn’t have angles or sides and gave it four of them it would be even faster I’d wager
But I think the classy thing to do is describe yourself as a “bit of a dilettante”
And I guess you could technically read one subject and still describe yourself as an “autodidact” in another subject as long as it’s *completely unrelated* to the discipline in which you received world-leading tutelage.
Thank you SO much for this, Will! Really happy you enjoyed it.
I mean whatever, no shade. I guess we all… choose to do things… sometimes… and that basically justifies using the prefix “auto-“
Just heard someone who studied at Oxford describe themselves as an autodidact on the radio 😂
Not once in the 80s, 90s or 00s do I recall a politician urging the public to embrace email, mobile phones, texting, two factor authentication, online banking, air fryers, or to replace all their cassette collection with a CD collection.
So forgive me if I smell a rat.
Ahhh thank you so much!! ☺️
Eternally grateful for this! x
Oh thank goodness!
What a charming little conceit I almost immediately failed to keep up!
I had this running joke with myself that I was going to have some kind of reference to Donne in every book I wrote and I’ve just realised I completely forgot that in Black Bag. So that’s that ruined!
“I devoured it! (because it stuck to the bottom of my tray bake)”
“The first sip should go down the windpipe!” - my brain whenever I drink anything at all
I am really loving this debut by Saul Leslie (the great supermarket novel)
Specifically told Windows desktop background rotator that I like cityscapes and the natural world. This is my 3rd day in a row of Two Angry Chickens in a Dust-Storm.
I didn’t even say the work steak out loud, I just said bon apetite
I know people always have an explanation for this, but I cooked my son a steak because he likes steak and he’s a growing boy and now I’m getting constant ads for steak. So phones can smell now!
I've just finished Black Bag by @lukekennard.bsky.social and highly recommend it - really funny, thoughtful and original. Best new novel I've read this year and will take some work to knock of that top spot
Thank you so much 🥰
It is because reading is the new rock and roll
For the first time in a decade I have had to return a library book by a specific date
When was the last time you heard someone talk about a TV show? 2021? We’re mostly playing pinochle now.
My theory is that nobody really watches anything on any streaming service anymore. We don’t cancel our subscription for purely sentimental reasons and they know this.
