Idk it just feels like important symbolism to me since when Asuka was little, her real mom lost her capacity care about her well being or even recognize her. Yet the traumatized boy she hates recognizes her and stops. I feel like it's showing that Asuka is gonna be ok now despite the violence shown.

Shinji is trying to kill her in that moment, but when he comes to fully, he stops and curls up into a ball to cry. But as Asuka is potentially realizing this isn't her mom, the person hurting her stops and is overwhelmed with guilt.

I'm thinking about Evangelion for some reason, specially when how Asuka dies in EOE she's reaching out to her mom within the eva and to try to protect herself. But when she rejects instrumentality, she wakes up reaching out to shinji.
