been playing around with a tower defense game where you have to arpg craft all the tower mods
Y'all thinking this is cool has made me not really trust your opinions anymore.
one of the only net positives of ai might be that at least all those annoying idea guys are bothering someone else for once
love those threads in the game dev feed that are like "day 32 of 80 of making the world's most boring computer company" and all 32 days are just them asking Claude what to do next and then they finish with a #riseAndGrind and #founderLife
It's so obvious that the companies who think this is cool have never actually enjoyed a video game in their lives.
I don't care which reads better. I want real stories written by real humans who have had real experiences. Not something generated by a computer pretending to be a person. Why is this hard to understand?
first day warm enough to open my window and my neighbor has just been leaf blowing for 3 straight hours.
You can look up what an llm is and how it works. It's not a secret. It is literally impossible for it to gain sentience. And they're fully aware that it's impossible. They're just lying because that's kinda what the whole company is founded on.
If ai could do half of what they claim, that would be it. It would just print money. They wouldn't need to make shit up about it. But it can't do what they claim, so they just sit around and say stuff like this.
Unpopular opinion, but a lot of this "doing it right" mentality is how we wind up with games all feeling the exact same.
Difficulty spikes, weird controls, ropey onboarding all of it critical to prevent games feeling like they're ground down and pumped out safe mush.

"oh but it's so good at boilerplate!"
if 50% of your code is boilerplate then again, you're really bad at this.
as a professional software engineer, anyone saying llms are writing more than 50% of their code is either lying or an idiot.
Hey folks, been having a real rough day, but I'm just gonna stream anyway, hopefully it'll help me relax and I can help everyone else relax, so come join me for some chill trucking in Snowrunner! As always, all the signal boosts hugely appreciated.

two weeks of entirely re-doing my animation system just so i can properly put boots on my sprite.
worth it, now to make the rest of him less naked.

Our next game is Verminsteel!
You're a bird with a broadsword, kicking thousands of fascists so hard they fly into the sun
PLEASE go wishlist it, it'll make me really happy and help me stop low-key panicking and stuff: store.steampowered.com/app/4352280/... #indiegame #indiedev #gamedev
starting to get pretty annoyed by software that have long standing bugs but also pops a stupid ai assistant in my face every 4 seconds.
havent been able to copy and paste multiple screenshots into jira in months, but their useless chat bot sure wont shut the fuck up
One cool thing about unequivocally hating AI is that you will be proven right over and over again every single day
A graffiti wall in Caves of Qud reads: "I apologize if it's too small" What could they be referring to? A knife? A tithe? A member? The mind races
"I only use AI to write the boring parts"
The boring parts:
The reason we're here is that tens of millions of people will punch a hole in a wall if they hear someone used food stamps to buy soda but they're fine if the right-wing podcaster turned fbi director uses his taxpayer funded private jet to go party whenever he feels like it bsky.app/profile/thed...
now i understand animation trees though and holy shit, this rules.
was making stuff so difficult on myself before.
personally, my biggest game dev hurdle is that if i try something stupid, and it works, i just never bother to learn the "right" way to do it.
just had to rip out all my animation code because i was too lazy to learn godot's animation tree and my hacky solution just wasnt cutting it anymore.
If this was true, why wouldn’t they do it and cut out the developers?
it wont
How many times, in how many contexts, in how many ways am I going to have to say that this is what "AI" does— what it fundamentally *is*— before it sinks in? That all Bullshit engines do is statistically correlate training data & inputs via their weights to produce outputs you are likely to accept…
I think I'm more excited for Mewgenics than any game I can remember in a long time.
Ngl, I'd pay to have a USB port on my arm
