Did I have a dream last night? White dreaming as metacognitive feelings While most research on sleep mentation focuses on dream reports, sleep experiences can also include reports lacking content, such as white dreaming—the feeling of knowing one dreamt but being unable ...

Did you have a dream last night that you can't recall? Perhaps you didn't dream anything at all! Happy to finally see this out (after what feels as a lifetime) onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

Facilitating unusual bodily experiences and out-of-body experiences across wakefulness and sleep: A high-density EEG and neurophenomenology study Unusual bodily experiences (UBEs) are illusory bodily perceptions that are not coherent with typical wakeful experiences, including flying or floating…

Our last article is finally published! 🔬🧠 We found that unusual bodily experiences (including out-of-body experiences) can be facilitated in a laboratory setting, and they seem to appear during mixed wake-sleep states. Read the full article here: www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Have YOU seen the Hat Man? Experts say what's behind the creepy entity Experts reveal the truth behind this terrifying spectre, who may have influenced one of Hollywood's most famous villains.

Have you ever heard about the ‘Hat Man’? Many people who experience sleep paralysis report seeing him: a dark, shadowy figure with a big hat, silently watching from the corner of the room. I was briefly mentioned in a Daily Mail article about this phenomenon: www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/...

Can you be aware of nothing? The rare sleep experience scientists are trying to understand Western theories of consciousness tend to assume consciousness is about information.

Can you be aware of nothing while you are asleep? I wrote a new piece on dreamless sleep experiences for @theconversation.com
theconversation.com/can-you-be-a.... I also talk about some of the exciting findings from @tecferrer.bsky.social's research.

It was so refreshing to collaborate in this artistic project on liminal states of consciousness by Paula Ábalos (installation in Leipzig, Germany). I contributed a written piece on 'Dream hacking', which you need to find by interacting with the website :)

Great question! Nearly 70% of UBEs were identified as "lucid dreams" in the study, yet few of them were reported in a dream environment. So, heightened awareness seems common during UBEs—enabling the signaling—but this doesn't necessarily mean they qualify as lucid dreams in the classical sense.

📢 New preprint from the lab:

We are very excited to report the discovery of an oscillation in the Central Thalamus using rare direct recordings of human thalamic electrophysiology.

The novel oscillation is tightly coupled to specific, natural states of consciousness.🧵
