I glanced at FB and it served me an ad that made it clear that FB's ad targeting had conflated me with my ophthalmologist.

Anyway, I am so very grateful for the access and assistance the folks on MS Fram gave me, not only for this shot but for so many moments of assistance during the times I had an on-board photographer gig/residency with them. 5/5
The crew member also got me a flat board so that I could keep my tripod stable (stable relative to the ship), the ledge was a metal mesh. The folks on the bow were excited by the activity and offered to try and remain still as I got off a dozen or so long exposures with a 10 stop ND filter. 4/
Still, a few days later we went through a narrow passage in smooth water and one of the ship crew (who had little English, mostly Tagalog) came up with a harness and asked if I'd like to go up now. I said yes, of course. 3/
I did have some obstacles. The viewing position I wanted could be attuned either through glass (from the ship bridge) or better from a thin and locked off ledge in front of the bridge. I was working with those folks so I asked if I might be allowed if we got smooth water with ice, expecting no. 2/
This isn't perfect, but I love it and it is a single long-exposure shot, not a composite. Rarely for me, this show had a bit of a plan behind it or at least the idea of looking across the bow with a long enough time exposure to render bergy bits in the water with streaks. 1/

Oh, also, the Onion finally won their 17-month legal battle and now, fairly and squarely, own Infowars.
Weird. Some of it is good weird, some of it is very bad weird, some of it is just weird weird.
But it's not good writing weird, mostly.
Facebook is trying to get me to friend the brand new account of a guy who was found guilty of hitting on a pre-teen (I'd posted the audio records of the trial), uhhh, no.
The writing of this season of Real Life is awful and I would like a change of show-runner.

Today was kinda weird. Drove 3+ hours each way (and hiked a couple miles) to a random waterfall I was curious about only to find it was gone due to a landslide. So I went to some caves instead and saw a sign that told me not to lick the walls.... 1/2
He tried a little too hard to appease "both sides", and admitted ignorance to the degree that this former AG had to ask to have certain laws read to him, on an issue that's a relevant topic in the race right now. Oops. Steyer and Thurmond probably had the best responses. YMMV. 2/2.
Good fact check there, no complaints as far as it goes. Becerra has probably the best claim to relevant experience in the Dem contenders as well. Lots to like. A recent CBS LA compilation of interview questions with candidates about trans issues... embarrassing. 1/2
Goudier Island was a pretty wonderful location, the weather and light shifted two or three times in the couple hours we were there, as always, the best moments were often the few seconds where the light was visibly changing.

dang, it is an amazing result at that.
I love how often the polar sky just erases parts of a scene, creating opportunities for abstracts.

Gotta say that I appreciate that.
If every gamedev put quite as much work into trying to get their game appreciated for efforts like those HG put into making NMS NMS, well, we'd all be even happier gamers I"m sure.
A great thing about universal health care is that, based on the experience of every other rich country in the world, it'd cost you less in taxes. (But agreed about taxes, and I'm sure we can find great uses for the savings.)
A list of "date modified times", each with a green circle with a checkmark to the left. The top row says "Date Modified". The last five entries read "Tomorrow at 3:52 AM".
Time travel in my filesystem
Hamburger Mary’s in San Francisco circa 1983, a friend took me there to come out to me, I still hadn’t figured my own self out at thd time.
(The proprietor was awesome, and the story of how I got use of the hotel espresso machine before she came to provide breakfast each day is something I'll save for another day.)
Anyway, yes, common sense is tied up in the common experiences of a culture and its environment, someone from a different culture may not share your sense of a "common" sense.
....
(The other being sand blast damage to the paint from blown volcanic alluvium in the plains near past jokulhaups, but that's a story for another day.)

Doing so, she felt, was entirely a matter of common sense. If you fail to do that, the wind will grab the doors from your hand when you try and open them, forcefully enough to bend the car door hinges. This is one of the two most common causes of damage to rental cards in Iceland.
...
... looks me straight in the eye and says "You Americans have no common sense." I allowed that this was likely true, but asked what made her think of it. She noted (in a complementary tone) that I had parked my vehicle, in the blizzard, pointing Into the wind.

I'd planned the trip there, from my residency in South Iceland (Laugarvatn), so that I wouldn't travel during the worst of storms. So I arrived the day before a blizzard. The day of the blizzard, I did a trip photographing around the lake, came back to the hotel, and the proprietor....
The Icelander relationship with dangerous weather seems fundamentally more grounded to me than that of (say) Americans. Not more afraid, not less, just more ... matter of fact This is a bit of a digression, but ...
There I was, only guest at a hotel at Mývatn, winter...
It's been a few months since I went through my obsession phase with it, probably time for another one.
There's an OM DLC? I was not informed. Thank you for informing me! <3
