That’s exactly it. Fully published comic prices have set an unrealistic entry price for indies
Posts by Dave Cook
That’s exactly my pricing at present 😳it felt right to me, but I’m always keen to assess the landscape before the next campaign
Digital is so tricky. I even find it hard to sell them at £1 😅
That’s almost £1 a page 😳
Hi comic creators and readers 👋
How much would you expect to pay for an indie, self published single issue these days? (22-24 pages)
Keep in mind: indies aren’t Marvel or DC - large pubs can afford to charge less due to other revenue they make.
What do you think? 🤔

In our cyberpunk comic series Killtopia, a horde of killer mecha has taken over Neo Tokyo (and they’ve infected most humans with a nanomachine plague - yikes!)
Crash is the only mech that knows the cure, triggering a city wide brawl to claim him

Having an absolute blast with Capcom’s latest release Pragmata
Unique gameplay mechanics are always a welcome surprise in a triple-a market that seems hell bent on chasing trends
But Pragmata’s simultaneous mix of shooting and hacking feels like something genuinely new, with great characters too

Just out of a screening of the Akira 4K remaster. Absolutely stunning.
The awesome But Why Tho? gives Killtopia: Phantoms #1 its first 5-star review 😳
“It feels like a new story, a sequel. It’s the same world, but Cook and Bint have completely reinvented it.”
This has seriously made my day.

Any time, and thanks so much again. Seriously made my day :)

Oh damn; this is the best way to start a Friday 😳 holy smokes!
Thanks so much for taking the time to read the series and Phantoms. I was genuinely worried that the new tone might not click with some people, so this is incredible to hear.
There’s so much more to come 😳
The Street Fighter trailer is perfect. I’m so happy right now.
Love how they’ve been self-aware enough to include the series’ sillier aspects.
I can’t wait to see it.

Had a blast seeing The Prodigy tonight 🔥
So much nostalgia.
Parapa the Rapper doing Linked In Park "One thing I don't know why it doesn't even matter how hard you try"
Oh that’s brilliant 😅
That’s all we can do yeah. I think that’s the best approach anyone can take :)
How is Scrivener by the way? Would you recommend it? What does it have over Word?
I think you’ve nailed it. I’ve heard of a few writers whose new releases got next to no support from their publisher’s marketing team.
They were doing the majority of it - presumably as marketing budgets are stretched so thing today? I honestly don’t know 🤔 but it seems like a total imbalance
And hey, fair play to those artists honestly. The hustle is tough.
But yeah, I’ve tried it lately and it’s just not for me honestly
I sometimes wonder if I got into this game too late 😅
Same man yeah. Even those KS vids feel like a chore sometimes 😅 I feel like I’m becoming incredibly lazy with time, but Rach says I’m probably just done with it all, but still pushing onward.
I honestly don’t know what it is, but everything feels like double the effort lately
Same man. Each to to their own, but I have so little time each day for family and myself as it is, I’d prefer to not use it making videos that probably won’t move the dial
I do like the idea of writing more features on the Patreon though - it does sound fun to write about games again or action movies again - but only whenever something catches my interest.
I’m not going to oblige myself to publish features at a regular cadence. Definitely not.
Totally man. In the second part I mention the Patreon / Insta videos. Tried it just to see how it felt, but nah it’s just not for me.
Getting my head down to write my next thing now. I’ll pitch it, if it doesn’t hit, Kickstarter etc etc.
It’s the old cycle, but it works for me.
Totally this. But hey, if people do love expanding into video and it works for them, more power to them.
I just fear it reinforces the modern hustle culture. Always be working, never stop etc.
For me, life’s far too short to burn out like this. I’ve been there before, and can’t ever go back
I genuinely love this. I got a ReMarkable ‘dumb’ tablet over a year ago, and I use it lots when roughing out my comic arcs and issues.
Make a coffee, stick a record on, and just write away. It’s so good to unplug.
I even got an old school Casio watch last month. I want to be less online.
