We're coming up to a year since I sent this letter to my executive board and I will resend it on or close to the year mark with even more international and national support against AI.

@tjheffernan.bsky.social loved this! excellent stuff
Freedom of expression - freedom to dissent.
A Reddit poster commented “how a Ring camera labeled the user, who identified herself as Black, ‘as a dark animal’ while she was leaving for work.”
Instead of focusing on femicide and violence against women, Merz uses it as a moment to exacerbate tensions against immigrant communities, who remain marginalized. Merz's rhetorical practice is in line with the AfD. AfD continues to grow and expresses similar ideas about immigrants.
The complicity of universities cannot be understated...
The few of us fighting back aren't enough.

Response from the President of the @ec.europa.eu
It would have been good if the President had provided links or citation to the evidence.

Scientists and scholars: WTF, that's not true.

AI is death to creatives zine
Daughter’s anti-AI campaign ongoing at art college. Zine made with friends. Management and teachers are unsure how to react.
Peter Thiel just invested in a start up producing AI infused collars for cattle. „A big selling point for the collars is the ability to set up virtual fencing, using sound and vibration cues delivered through the collar to keep the animals within a specific range.“. gizmodo.com/peter-thiels...
I want to flag a certain kind of move in some quarters wherein authors attempt to position themselves not as AI boosters, but as critics of AI criticism.

if somebody who only so far spent 18 years on earth can figure all this out, what are the older people playing at?
he goes over basic openly accessible research on why AI is bad and repeats the correct mantra that companies dont care about us & as a default the correct position is not to trust them
All this conversation about the need for AI regulation is distracting from the fact that we *already* have laws both at the national and international level that are being massively violated by #BigTech. We have enforcement problems that the conversation around AI governance & regulation is ignoring
when people talk about AI used in moderation of social media posts, you must remember there is always the human-in-the-loop, often a woman, often in the Global South, always dehumanised and forgotten

Cloud computing? More like covered in ice at the bottom of the ninth circle of hell computing! Very efficient cooling
"During one site visit in early 2025, OpenAI employee Keith Heyde joked with colleagues that he could assess the amount of clay in the soil just by tasting it. Then he crouched down, grabbed a pinch of earth and put it in his mouth. The moment became an inside joke, but it also showed just how determined the team was to understand the locations where they wanted to build data centers. (Heyde left OpenAI a few weeks ago.)"
Incredible reporting from @anissa.bsky.social in @theinformation.com about OpenAI's struggle to get more computing power as Stargate—its $500B data center buildout—has floundered.

It also includes this detail. We are in the dirt-eating phase of the AI hype cycle.
It also doesn’t help that writers like him consistently launder what people who aren’t white men have said—better and more incisively—into sanded down blog posts that make them money & a name to trade on. The business model they’re using is itself kind of fucked up.
The thing is that machine learning is a technique that became "AI" about 10+ years ago and wasn't AI before, and things that are built to perform specific tasks could be done with or without machine learning. I prefer identifying the problem the thing is built for rather than the technique.
The headline does not convey how completely batshit this story is. The Archive Today (archive.ph etc) admin weaponized the site's captcha to attack a blogger who wrote about them and *altered archived screenshots* as part of the attack.
