Holiday Traditions with Jane Austen Holiday traditions in Jane Austen’s time were quite different from our own.  Christmas trees didn’t become common place until the Victorian era. Her life in that era made her into the artist that she was and her stories reflect the values of the time which she cleverly skewers. Such a pity she didn’t live longer so we could have enjoyed more of writings.
