Also, this line:

“‘Could we have done more? The circumstances and parameters for doing more were not present in my analysis during the Biden administration.’”

No. Lessons. Learned.

Been waiting for years for someone to write this piece. @DionNissenbaum’s byline meant it would surely include crucial analysis abt McGurk’s role in Iraq spanning to “‘the admin took an approach that… fed a narrative that the U.S. was viewing Palestinian lives as somehow less equal’”. Must read.

My dudes what is america without this? We immigrants are attracted to america because of Black culture, because of Latinx culture, because of the cities full of every type of person, because the prospect of coming to this country and succeeding despite not being white and wealthy.

It goes without saying that what is happening @washingtonpost.com is part of a wider effort to dismantle news institutions in the US at a time when they’re needed the most. From NPR to CBS to WaPo — those responsible for rights abuses know full well the power of honest journalism.

Opinion | "The Voice of Hind Rajab" conveys the trauma of Gaza in the story of one 5-year-old's death Ayman Mohyeldin: This film confronts our collective failure to respond.

Precisely, Ayman.

“The right distance gives the film its devastating power. There is no reenactment of violence, no false catharsis. Instead, there is waiting. Bureaucracy. Human debate. And a ticking clock that never stops. #Gaza theweekendprime.bsky.social

“Tell everyone we are being massacred”: overlooked war crimes in the Democratic Republic of the Congo In eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), across a vast swathe of mountainous terrain, a conflict is raging that the world has forgotten. In Nov, I visited E #DRC to investigate acts by Islamic State-linked #ADF. 40+ victims (men, women, children) spoke of abductions, killings, sexual violence, forced labor.

My @amnesty.org OpEd on ADF’s #warcrimes, need for UNSC/others to do more to protect civilians.

“The Coalition Air Forces conducted a limited military operation this morning targeting weapons and combat vehicles unloaded from the two ships at the port.”

Mind boggling the statement refers to this as an act of the “coalition”. Perhaps since that’s the legal cover for Saudi mil action in #Yemen?

In a very telling letter to the council ahead of the vote, #DRC said protection of civilians “must unequivocally remain the central strategic and operational priority of #MONUSCO”. DRC urged a strengthened mandate allowing “a more mobile, proactive and preventive posture”. #UNSC @amnesty.org

I watched The Voice of Hind Rajab last night. Twice.

I have no words.

Please go see it. Tell everyone about it.

And if you’re so inclined, support the Palestinian Red Crescent. donate.mazloweb.com/donate/7PKxN...

I can’t believe we are watching the deliberate starvation in Gaza and are this helpless. How is this 2025? How did we as a human race allow this to happen? How?

Badar’s fellowship is partially subsidized by the Scholars at Risk program, which works with U.S. universities to host international scholars facing threats in their countries. He never imagined that a country with a Scholars at Risk program would one day pose a risk to scholars.

A powerful essay ⤵️

Gaza: Increasing Israeli “evacuation orders” lead to forcible transfer of Palestinians The increasing issuance by Israeli Forces of “evacuation orders” – which are, in effect, displacement orders – have resulted in the forcible transfer of Palestinians in Gaza into ever shrinking spaces...

"In some 36 strikes about which the UN Human Rights Office corroborated information, the fatalities recorded so far were only women and children."

Video Shows Aid Workers Killed in Gaza Under Gunfire Barrage, With Ambulance Lights On The U.N. has said Israel killed the workers. The video appears to contradict Israel’s version of events, which said the vehicles were “advancing suspiciously” without headlights or emergency signals.

“Ma, forgive me, ma. This is the path I chose — to help people.”

Ya Allah.

So many lives destroyed. Who is going to fund the reconstruction? Who will help people rebuild their lives? Oh, Khartoum.

@aljazeeraenglish.bsky.social is running an utterly heartbreaking report by Mohamed Vall from the Sudanese capital Khartoum. He says the destruction has rendered the city unrecognizable. And it shows vividly in the report. If you’ve ever been to Khartoum, you’d recognize many places now in ruins.
