In our latest GenForward post, Cathy J. Cohen writes "young adults seem to be rejecting the premise that affordability is purely an economic or even lifestyle concern. Instead, they see affordability, or access to essential services and rights, as part of what they believe democracy should ensure."

Not a critique of district policy! It’s just the process!
I started my week with a confident spring in my step about recruiting for a new project within two urban school districts. After all, I’ve done this before!
Then bureaucracy served me a piece of humble pie in the form of a email reminding me that I need to get tested for TB before I begin.
When life gets overwhelming, an invitation to channel my dog and his favorite baguette.
Ben admitted that he used AI to generate his picks. There are calls for disqualification!
With a Best Picture win for OBAA, Ben is the winner of this year's Oscar pool.
To quote my partner Anthony, "I'm doing baaaad." He and Zoe (Kumar's partner) report a similar sentiment toward film: "happy spouse, happy house."
Ben and I both were incorrect on cinematography—he selected OBAA and I selected Train Dreams. It now comes down to Best Picture.
Half way through and we are now down to a two-horse race between myself and Ben.
Ben increased his likelihood of winning by selecting Mr. Nobody Against Putin over The Perfect Neighbor for best Doc Feature.
We only diverge in two remaining categories: Cinematography and Picture. 😬
@kumar.fyi and I have identical selections moving forward, meaning no combination of predictions will allow him to overtake my lead.
Kumar has been watching the Oscars since 2003 and is the most knowledgeable cinephile I know, regardless the outcome of this pool.
We are now one third of the way through and @kumar.fyi's chances of winning the pool have dropped to zero, despite being in third place for the raw count. He made the inspired prediction of Delroy Lindo for supporting actor, costing him two points in this weighted category.
Ben still is the most likely winner of tonight's pool—he is the only contestant who selected OBAA as the best picture winner.
No one in the pool selected the winner of the inaugural Oscar for casting, an admittedly difficult feat without priors.
The predictions models are now starting to more accurately reflect raw points. Zoe had two significant missteps in the costume and hair/makeup categories.
This may reflect Zoe's general disdain toward the film industry. In her words "There are too many movies. People should make fewer movies."
Interesting Zoe, who has seen one best picture nominee (F1) and whose favorite film of the past year is Anaconda🐍, has the second highest probability of winning the pool three awards in. This may be due to her predictions, which are starkly different from the other participants.
Tonight I will be modeling the likely winner of my friends' Oscars pool live by tracking their correct predictions and simulating the remaining categories (x 10,000) based on the results already announced and the remaining categories.
Here is the result of the first batch—follow along!
Folks should check out @jztidecat.bsky.social's post on the GenForward blog, which examines young adults' low rates of trust toward political institutions.
The post provides a nice complement to our recent data, which shows widespread concern about the threat of authoritarianism among young adults.
Yes! Particularly wild given that Chalamet grew up in publicly-funded housing for performing artists in NYC. Regardless of what he feels about certain art forms, this upbringing probably played a role in fostering his own creative endeavors.
My partner is in the Metropolitan Opera Chorus, and we both agree opera has work to do to broaden its appeal.
However, these companies also employ hundreds—sometimes thousands—of employees, many of whom are unionized.
Both artistically and politically, Chalamet’s point is a horrendous one.
The Catholic Bishops are entirely right. The crusade to end birthright citizenship is immoral, inconsistent with our law, and an affront to the dignity of children born in the United States. And the people working in earnest to undermine it should be ashamed of themselves.
Just insane cruelty.
This guy gets it.
My submission to National Geographic.
Using our most recent GenForward data, Diane Wong writes that “young people express widespread concern about the power of federal agencies and the use of force by law enforcement…76% of Black, 72% of AAPI, 69% of Latinx, and 60% of white respondents believe that ICE has too much power in politics.”
It’s now official. I’ll be publishing my first book, Respectability Politics, w/ @uchicagopress.bsky.social!
Proud to join a press w/ a strong lineage in Black studies & Black politics, including Cohen’s Boundaries of Blackness, which has deeply inspired my work.
Now to get these revisions done.
Stop trying to make Rahm Emanuel happen. It’s not going to happen.
As ICE terrorizes our communities, farmworkers are still feeding this country — every single day.

My friends, we are in a serious constitutional crisis. The government is racially profiling, suppessing free speech, killing our own people in the streets— and lying about every fact along the way. If we don’t use our natural talents and voices to say “no,” then what’s the point of law at all?
If you’ve seen the news, want to act but don’t know where to start:
Literally actually text 5 people who you think are concerned about this and just start chatting. Small stuff: ask if they know who *is* doing anything; ask if they can donate to below links …and go from there!
