Someone has sure already made this observation but the fact they can convert all those empty warehouses into prison camps means they could have converted them into housing, community centers, job training centers or, hell, libraries or schools all along. It’s always a matter of will not resources.

"Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge,” Sartre said. “But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past."

Fascism, as Robert O. Paxton writes in The Anatomy of Fascism, “is an affair of the gut more than of the brain,” a phenomenon of “mobilizing passions” reaching a fever pitch that turns otherwise reasonable people into delusional, dangerous fanatics yearning for the void, for fascist movements – anywhere they are found, or have been found – want nothing more than the end of all things. It is a movement of death and destruction, of all-consuming nihilism. It is a movement that seeks to dismantle love and human connection wherever it is. It is an assault on what it is to be a human being. Nothing about fascism is natural. In fact, Paxton cites a number of intellectuals who in the 1930s dismissed fascism as a most unnatural phenomenon.

The people behind the inflated protests are performing a monumental service to democracy & peace in the US. The Regime wants riots, but these animal characters are not only an effective protest, grabbing attention & mocking ICE, they seem to reduce the risk of violent protests. It's perfect.

Charlie Kirk was a white man killed by a white man on a mostly white campus in a mostly white state. Explain to me how this act requires cracking down on minorities and minority organizations?

Yes, and we rightly do not blame Kristallnacht on the Jews or even Grynszpan

We blame it on the Nazis who would've done something like it no matter what

rarely have I more acutely felt the dynamic by which Dems are held responsible for the rhetoric of every random left-leaning person on the internet and Republicans are not even asked to answer for their own personal words

“Perfect is the enemy of good” is not a phrase that can be applied to *human rights* and it’s really disturbing how many people don’t understand that

My family came from Germany a lot more recently than his did but I can still write English in English. 😀

And yeah Mary Trump is great. I still think her book is the best one written about him. I used to think Trump was unpredictable but after reading her, he's not.

Not really an overstatement to say that the test of a free society is whether or not comedians can make fun of the country's leader on TV without repurcussions.

Holy crap, I totally read that issue when it came out. (See what I did there?) And yes, agreed, it is always older women and younger guys in "these bisexual things." It's in the bi-laws at the meetings.

Exactly so. There is no soul in there. You can't hurt its feelings.

Content aside, why does Trump capitalize every noun like he’s writing English in German?

One of the drawbacks of referring to Elon as “Elmo” for so long is that I was momentarily unable to understand what was remarkable about this tweet, not realizing it is actually about the Muppet.

As a German political scientist who used to live in the US I cannot say how deeply disturbing it is to see these masked ICE goons dragging people off the streets, and the GOP building up this massive secret police force. What a shameful moment in history this is.
