Let there be as much outrage from politicians in Washington when kids go hungry as there is when I break bread with New Yorkers.

Selfie of Huld, a middle-aged white femme, wearing headphones around her neck and a purple single use mask.
“I’m going on an adventure!” - that short, rich guy who hung out with the wizard.
I’ve seen fully ONE other person wearing a mask since I arrived at the airport an hour ago, and it was a poorly fitted one. So that’s fun.
If I catch COVID or the flu on my way to surgery, I will be PISSED!

Also, no clue how the big one kept its leaves over winter, they usually dry up in the cold months. I wonder if they’ll stick around through the next growing season!

A bathtub filled with potted plants, mostly cactuses and succulents
Important pre-travel job done: all house plants treated against fungus gnats and given a damn good drenching.

My surgeon and I do not plan to make me unrecognisable. My goal is to be able to feel good about my mirror image even on days when I have rolled out of bed feeling like death. To feel like myself without having to perform gender.

It’s still part of my history, and I can recognise that despite dysphoria and a LOT of misgendering my face is beautiful now too.

I’ve actually been feeling surprisingly positive about myself lately. I’m glad I can be thankful for the face I grew up with and grew into even if I ultimately decided to change it to feel more like myself.

Huld, a white femme wearing colourful makeup inclines her head toward her calico cat and smiles at the camera. Her hair is medium short blonde and wavy.
Huld poses with one finger poking at her cheek while she’s pouting cheekily. Her pink top drapes between her breasts.
Huld and her cat Rudy interacting, Rudy’s sniffing Huld’s finger and Huld is smiling at her cat.
This face will expire in exactly one week thanks to hundreds of people who donated to my fundraiser.
Extremely thankful! 💖

It's so much PJATT with you Hansi.
It's a pure expression of the kind of show this is that when Hansi gets up from sweeping the wood filings, he makes a sound with his mouth like his back is creaking.
Why use sound effects when you can just do it on the day? It's fine. definitely fine.

"Bob bob bob"...
The dog, by the way, is not there. Every cutaway to the dog is to the dog that was in the original Danish version of the show three years earlier.

THE STØVELDANCE!!
Again, I thought this was the HEIGHT of choreography at the time. I'm not ashamed to admit that I would break out my støveldance any chance I got at family parties at an age (13) where I should have been embarrassed by such things.

A bowl of rice porridge. A thick layer of cinnamon and sugar and a dab of butter have been distributed on top.
And RICE PORRIDGE. Oh, it's a classic. Thicker than the rice pudding you might know in the UK. Served with cinnamon, sugar and a glob of butter.
VERY autistic-friendly treat. Warning: Most online recipes make it too runny. Add at least 30% more rice.

- first, it's a potato-based soft flat bread.
But you then make a filling (I prefer a simple butter, sugar and cinnamon, though it's not the "original filling") and fold or roll it up. It's honestly sublime.
I like to unfold them or nibble the edges off & squeeze the filling out.

Gjertrud mentions two sweet treats here. Lefser, which was translated as pancakes, and honningkake, translated as ginger bread.
Honningkake does contain ginger, but their actual translated name is Honey Cake. I don't think I've ever had them!
But calling lefse pancakes is wild -

The radio broadcasts go by real fast, but they're worth it! The costs of running an olympic event are an ever-green fount of jokes it would seem.
-
Gjertrud loves her solitaire-cheating, potato-dealing husband and she's too pure for this world.

In order to develop a credit rating, I started buying on credit. Literally only for that reason. Now, if something just slightly inconveniently spiny, I immediately Klarna it.
Not sure this is all that good of a development. XD

Olaf's insistence that they don't buy anything on credit is supposed to obviously allude to his cash-only potato business, but it was also a stance that I think most people my age were taught.
But that meant I literally had no credit score when I started looking to get a mortgage! Oops!

Have you noticed yet that the two at the potato farm are the same actors as Gynther and Hansi? But what about Fritz?! Does he not have a double?

They wake up in the evening, find the key, sing a song, remember that the propeller is bent, and promptly go back to sleep. OH WHAT A LIFE!
Bear in mind, the oldest and most important nissemann in the world is currently fucking DYING in his bed, waiting for that key.

Episode 2 now. When this show first came on our screens, I definitely didn't notice just how slap-dash all the musical numbers are. I doubt they've been choreographed or blocked much at all. Most of the time it feels like they just turned the cameras on and went "all right, do what feels right!"

I love that they spend so much time just showing snippets of Gjertrud and Olaf just hanging out. It has ZERO plot significance. Nor do the radio announcements. They're just little jokey-jokes and character bits and I love them.
