A return to a peatland restoration site I used to work at yesterday. Looking forward to a new peatland PhD project looking at the role they can play in natural flood management in SW England!

A new water themed art exhibition with a live event this weekend! @uoe-creww.bsky.social @exeter.ac.uk
This role will involve fieldwork, analysing data and working with us towards outputs across a suite of natural flood management focused research projects.
Interested in a technical role increasing our applied understanding of water resilience, nature-based solutions, natural flood management, river restoration and rewilding?
@exeter.ac.uk we are seeking to appoint a technical specialist (reference R07520), See the thread and description below for more details and please get in touch if you'd like to discuss. Deadline for application: 12/02/2026.

will involve extensive fieldwork to run existing hydrological monitoring sites and involve managing, quality controlling and processing hydrological and geospatial data . Whilst fieldwork and data analysis experience is essential, training will be provided for example to undertake drone surveys.
The candidate will help monitor and quantify the impact of Natural Flood Management (NFM) Interventions. A key project is the (award winning!) Devon Resilience Innovation Project, seeking to increase flood resilience across Devon: www.devon.gov.uk/drip/2025/06...
Please see the job description via the link above (in our job portal reference number: Q07520 and role: Technical Specialist) for more details and how to apply. Deadline 01/09/2025.

I think yes significant anthropogenic constraints, but an amazing job in restoring natural processes and increasing resilience compared to what was there before.
Flying up through the National Trust Holnicote Stage 0 river restoration site last week. Fantastic to see how much water is being held in the reconnected floodplain despite the recent drought conditions!

This PhD will address research gaps in quantifying how much peatland restoration can benefit NFM efforts in moorland.
Flooding is the most common natural disaster, impacting billions. Natural Flood Management (NFM), a nature-based solution opposed to traditional ‘grey’ engineering, offer catchment-level solutions by using natural processes to slow and store water through a series of diffused interventions.
At Exeter this will be supervised by @dpanici.bsky.social , myself and Naomi Gatis in Geography and Centre for Resilience in @uoe-creww.bsky.social
Please share widely and if interested seen the link for more details. The successful applicant will join our research group where we're doing a wide range of Nature-based Solutions, NFM, catchment maangment and landscape recovery research.
Deadline for applications:
30th June 2025
