Essentially. But I think the fascists believe that the power of a national ethos that - whether it's true or not - states that we're all one despite our differences is for pussies and a rule through force and intimidation is the only real way to enforce their power, splintering will occur.

Secretly they desperately want to win and feel good about something and they're driven more by spite and disgust than they are about doing good but as long as you're kicking fascist's asses and you're dominating the party, they won't fight you.
The real secret to Blue MAGA is that they're vacuous and have goldfish brain, but if the party starts kicking into high gear and sweeping, then kicks a lot of fascist's asses, they'll immediately switch sides and genuinely believe they already always supported you.
And they have nowhere else to go.
This is where you want anarchists in the streets and socialists in local government. That's the political fusion you need. If you have that, wherever it's locked in you'll see major progress and wherever it's defeated the region will collapse.
Technically it'll still exist and this whole landmass is going to become privatized security hell. The Democrats and Republicans in positions of power will do anything to make sure that happens and that's the current trajectory of both parties.

Expect some attempt from the right wing to consolidate power through violence at some level. Trump's ICE is his personal fighting force and every person who voted to increase their budget is relying on the Nazi paramilitaries to target you specifically.
Since the US is already starting to fracture and undergo a soft Balkanization, you're likely to see regional power blocs become more important. It's possible for leftists to become more powerful when the nation wide apparatus has become dissolute.
The mealy mouthed young right wing Dems are just not entrenched enough to be able to strangle a movement like the old guard are, and the old guard are going to die. The outright fascists are some of the least popular people in US political history, breaking the law of "do it out of sight."

And there's really nowhere for hope to go at that point, because the Democrats wouldn't really have any more excuses. They're running out now and even the center left Democrats are fuming that Schumer regularly subverts any attempt to check Trump's power or arms shipments.
If the right wing Democrats suffocate a progressive movement then they're going to suffer from nationwide disillusionment in their own party. This is the most likely outcome. I go over the other stuff to acknowledge it's a possibility, but it's likely there's a blue wave and nothing.
Actual blue wave progressives would make Trump's life hell and basically force his hand if he wants to maintain control. If Congress is actually ready to mix it up, then a nationwide call to action for people on the ground would stymie a lot of the fascist action until the presidential.
The outside chance of progressives actually winning against their own party will be a mess. It's a better outcome without a doubt, but it'll just push the timer along. If they're genuinely progressive then it'll be a golden age.

Despite their age, they've been working incredibly hard to fill seats with right wing Democrats and defeat progressive candidates, to wash out progressives that win, and they've done a good job because it's been done piecemeal. They ALSO quashed any attempts during the Biden admin to get stuff done.
If the new recruits are more centrist and right-leaning, which is to say if the leadership wins across the board in the selection process during the primaries, where the DNC will be spending egregious amounts on the right wing candidates, they'll keep hold of the Congress.
I think this is likely.
I think it might be difficult for the leadership - who are already pretty old and infirm at this point - to fully keep a lid on an over packed rebellious Congress but they'll absolutely try to and how this breaks down will fundamentally shape the American politics that come next.
The situation I view as most likely is that there will be absolutely incredible pressure from the rank and file of voters to absolutely wreck house since we've all seen it's both possible and not even especially difficult if you're committed and the biggest fight will be INSIDE the Democratic party.
There is a SHRED of a chance that the party will get its shit together, that there will genuinely be so many of the blue motherfuckers in congress that there's just no longer any sort of excuse and some of the people will aim to become movers and shakers.
Smallish chance, worth pushing for.
Here's something of an inevitability providing there isn't catastrophic vote or election tampering (which is a real concern, however), the Democrats will basically win every race it's even theoretically possible they could win. Even with tampering, there's probably inevitable upsets.

It is worth keeping in mind always that these guys exist to mainstream their fascist ideas by framing human rights as debatable in perpetuity and are made stronger no matter how epically they are owned in a streamer debate and anyone telling you different is a collaborator
