For @electriclit.bsky.social I wrote about common microaggressions in the ableist writing workshop, ways disabled writers can resist in order to reclaim their stories, and my @sundresspub.bsky.social craft book NERVE.

A billion dollars is the socio-economic equivalent of a loose nuke, and we should work to prevent the acquisition of the former with the same urgency and ruthlessness we use to prevent the acquisition of the latter.

This is the โ€œpersonal responsibilityโ€ lie weโ€™ve all been fed by big business for decades. Weโ€™ve allowed industry to convince us weโ€™re at fault for their harms. And weโ€™ve allowed them to turn us against each other so we spend more time finger wagging individual people then we do fighting bad actors.

This is something tech people don't grasp about nonfiction writing: the process of deep research, of deciding which little details are interesting or which obscure anecdotes have historical value, is all part of the creative work of writing. It's not grunt work. It can't just be automated.

graphic novels do count as books and being mad at your kids for liking them more than prose books is how your kids learn to hate reading

@katherinelocke.bsky.social Hi I read John the Skeleton and it was so delightful! Thank you for the rec! So much more text than an American publisher would ever countenance ๐Ÿ˜œ but it worked well! Lots of chuckles and one hearty cry.

ProPublica Guild

The ProPublica union has voted to authorize a strike.

Around 150 journalists, videographers, copy editors and more voted to authorize, with 92% of the union voting yes.

ProPublica allegedly rejected restrictions on replacing jobs with AI, and hasn't met other union concerns.

ooh yeah I have the envo, which is similar I think? but I end up defaulting to disposables more often because they take up less space and I can see the airflow to make sure I have a seal ยฏ\_(ใƒ„)_/ยฏ

A little late for my conference, but anyone have a fave aesthetically cool head-strap mask for smaller heads? Ear loops hurt and I think tie-dyeing my fave N95s might un-N95 them.

But I'm profoundly grateful to everyone still making an effort to mask, to clean the air, to distribute tests and PPE, to support mutual aid funds, and more. I'm grateful for the friends and communities I've made because we've all been pushed from public spaces.

On this yearโ€™s long covid awareness day, I want more people to read and think about what the late Shafiqah Hudson said before it killed her. Because she was right, as usual, and also early, as usual. Perhaps too early for a lot of people to listen.
