Cosmetic gatekeepers: Negotiations of beauty and (re)shaping bodies by medical aesthetic practitioners Aesthetic practitioners who administer (non-)surgical medical cosmetic procedures play a central, and growing, role in the (re)shaping of predominantl…

So pleased to see this article out in the world! Anne-Mette Hermans and I explore how aesthetic practitioners function as cosmetic gatekeepers when administering non-surgical treatments like Botox and dermal fillers, and the frequent tensions between medicine, aesthetics and commercialism. It’s 🔓!

Oh they’re just the best 🥰 LOOK AT THEIR LITTLE WINGS AND BEAKS. Fortunately the geese nearby are pretty friendly and get quite close…

Ooooo! With the red pages? I was getting very impatient with the delayed UK publication. I absolutely love everything I've read by him. I cried at points during the Indian Lake trilogy - HOW DOES HE DO THAT WHEN I'M MADE OF STONE AND ICE?!

I swear, there are no authors who make me FEEL such a complex range of emotions as @sgj.bsky.social does. His latest, The Buffalo Hunter Hunter is just stunning. So, so good.

Genuinely, that statement was waiting in drafts to be published as soon as they could, didn’t fucking blink.

I think that number is likely higher now given we ran this survey over a year ago… I have a lot of conversations with PGRs about how they use GenAI in their writing (MOSTLY as an ‘advanced’ proofreader, but it can easily slip into reliance, which is where… shit gets iffy)

That’s also a fair enough reason to be averse to taxidermy. And thank you, the Berlin example is from a couple of years back (I wish I was in Berlin instead of Southampton right now…), but that creature does live in my head rent-free!

I have a soft spot for (ethical) taxidermy, but yes, if you don’t mind terrible taxidermy, please marvel at this treasure in Berlin…

A poorly taxidermied otter in a glass case

At the weekend I encountered a taxidermied otter that looked like it had received a face transplant from Gordon the Gopher.

If there’s one thing I can reliably find on any trip, it’s questionable taxidermy.
