"logic of Musk’s empire is total. X shapes the discourse. Grok automates it. Grokipedia rewrites the historical record. Starlink can deliver it all, everywhere, to everyone. Each layer reinforces the others. It’s not about winning arguments in the public sphere. It’s about building a replacement."

The GOP remembers #EarthDay with bill to make #BigOil immune from #climate liabilities.

US DOT wants states to build more roads and take space away from bikes and give it to cars. It's foolish on SO many levels. usa.streetsblog.org/2026/04/22/f...
One reaction to it, btw, was how little Western discussion of the dissolution of the Soviet Union did or has incorporated the massive disruption & costs of dealing with Chernobyl as a geopolitical factor (along w/Afghanistan, Saudi pumping to drive down Soviet oil exports, Reagan arms buildup, ..)
If you haven't, do recommend the Chernobyl mini-series. While far from ignorant about it, it really struck home -- with me and others in household watching it together.

The Chornobyl disaster exposed the cynicism of the Soviet system and became one of the factors behind the USSR’s collapse.
Authorities concealed the scale of the catastrophe, prioritizing image over human safety and putting thousands at risk.

For the record: The Washington Post is run by partisan hacks who think we won't remember that they took the *exact* opposite stance when it was Republicans pushing their own gerrymandering grab in Texas last year -- *without* putting it up for a vote.

"I think it’s a fact that at least some of these big companies look for communities that are news deserts to build projects like these, because it’s easier for them when there’s less public scrutiny."
A tweet from Representative Thomas Massie that reads: I just viewed 2 Top Secret FISA docs. 1) FISA Court opinion that raises serious concerns about FBI implementation of FISA 702. 2) letter by Senator Wyden describing a secret government interpretation of FISA law. The Constitution requires I vote No on FISA 702 reauthorization.
I sent a classified letter to House and Senate colleagues about a secret interpretation of surveillance law that every American should be concerned about.
Representative Massie is right. The Constitution requires EVERY member to vote against a clean reauthorization.
LEFT: What Donald is making our troops in Iran eat.
RIGHT: What Donald is giving folks at Mar-a-Lago to eat.
Honestly, I thought I was going to make this point a lot better than I can. The food at Mar-a-Lago may be richer and more plentiful, but it still looks like poorly-plated slop.
🚨 Türkiye’s #solar DOUBLED in two years 🌞⚡️
Annual installations hit a record 4.8 GW in 2023 and have since remained close to this level, setting the stage for solar to rise exponentially, doubling from 18.4 TWh in 2023 to 37.3 TWh in 2025 📈📈

Happy Tax Day, New York. We’re taxing the rich.
Again: for any big liberal donor who wants to funnel millions into fixing this country's politics, the ROI on buying any struggling paper and simply tasking it with doing real reporting on local news is vastly higher than the same $$ given to some group that does mass ad buys every election year.
1981: Polish pope takes on authoritarian Polish government, Republicans cheer
2026: American pope takes on authoritarian American government, Republicans boo
I’m not surprised by the situational ethics on display here, but it is notable
Excellent. Hadn’t seen before.
A quibble: Trump didn’t bankrupt “a casino”, he bankrupted four.

Democrats don't control the narrative.
The massive Orban defeat should prompt Dems to align themselves more firmly with anti-fascist and pro-democracy forces abroad. There's a powerful link to be drawn between the celebrations in Budapest and the confrontations with ICE in Minneapolis. 1/

Amid the need for a serious, substantive Project 2029, there should be clarity about serious climate action including warnings of carbon pricing to come. Let investors start to factor those risks and maybe disastrous projects like this one would be somewhat less likely to move forward.
So glad to see someone so beautifully articulate what I think about almost every day….
"I broke the law, endangered my community, and now I'm the victim because driving safely isn't sexy."
This is the exact entitlement that makes our streets too dangerous for kids to walk or bike to school. The carbrain mindset compounds itself.
Any government that isn't right now accelerating plans to transition to 100% clean, renewable energy is either:
a. Incompetent
b. In the pockets of people who'd rather they didn't
c. a & b
Something like this will have to happen in this country once Trumpism is defeated. In the absence of accountability, the world will rightly assume that it will happen again.
Or has an immoral, narcissistic, corrupt pedophile in chief ….
… some gave away some of their money, often to support skewed personal priorities, while reserving vast amounts for uber-multigenerational wealth
Much better to tax appropriately
