I'm sorry to hear this. Thank you for this tribute to this extraordinary individual. I was a planetary student who didn't work with Yuk; yet, he was such a role model. He welcomed all of us and was curious in everything. Memories include dinners and hikes and riding in the station wagon.

I love everything about this!
For #fossilfriday, The New York Times has written a good article about the Paleontological Research Institution, what the museum means to the field of Paleontology, and its current financial situation (much improved even from a few weeks ago).

This is a great point. One senior faculty told me it is insulting for letter writers to count papers, grants, h-index, etc. They can count. The role is to comment on each of 3-5 papers that are sent out. Why are they significant in the field? The department may not have expertise in the field.
Today I’m joining the #GivingTuesday challenge to save the Museum of the Earth. As a Board of Trustee emeritus member, I see first-hand the Museum's impact on educating our community and the world about climate change, biodiversity, and our home planet. Please donate at priweb.org/support.
In Japan, others have recommended the JSPS program: www.jsps.go.jp/english/e-inv/ and Earthquake Research Institute (that also does volcanoes): www.eri.u-tokyo.ac.jp/en/internati...
Benjamin Meaker program at University of Bristol -- I last did this 6 years ago and it looks like things have changed, but it was a great place to visit: www.bristol.ac.uk/internationa...
How often do these sleeping volcanoes erupt globally? Almost once per year. "Since the start of the twentieth century, 101 potentially active volcanoes have produced their first Holocene eruption, as recorded in the volcanoes of the world (VOTW) database."

Infographic about the Paleontological Research institution. 94 years of research here. One of the 10 largest fossil collections in the USA, with 7 million specimens. 1.2 million users of their online content annually, 30,000 in person visitors 1,500 teachers use PRI for continuing education each year link to donate: https://www.priweb.org/donate
Infographic explaining that PRI needs to raise 1 million dollars by December 31st to pay off their mortgage, be free of that debt and continue future operations. They have already raised 2.1 million of the 3.1 million needed to pay this unexpected expense due to a major donor being unable to fulfill a long-term pledge
Some infographics about the Paleontological Research Institution, its continuing impact on research and education, and what is needed to keep this place around into the future after a major donor was unable to keep a pledge.

Love this photo -- am showing it to the field geophysics class when we talk about the EM31. So much more fun to drag than to carry😀
