Here's my first attempt at an HDR composition of the moon showing the detail in its night side. Small amounts of light reflected off the Earth bounce back to us from this dark side of the moon (called Earthshine) allowing us to see these details.

These false color images were taken as long exposures through a filter that only passes infrared light. After shifting the colors so that the sky appears blue, these are the results!
