USJF Honors Qiaoyan Li Rosenberg at Inaugural Dissertation Award Ceremony in Vancouver An event at the Association for Asian Studies Annual Conference recognizes pioneering research on migrant labor in Japan and underscores USJF’s support for emerging scholars.

USJF hosted a reception in Vancouver at the AAS Annual Conference to honor Dr. Qiaoyan Li Rosenberg, the inaugural recipient of the USJF Scholar Dissertation Award. The event celebrated her pioneering research on labor migration in Japan.

(6/6) こうした多大な貢献を称え、米日財団は2017年10月、森氏に「Distinguished Service Award」を授与いたしました。写真は、当時も理事を務めていた現理事のキャロライン・ケネディ氏と共に撮影されたものです。森氏がデリゲートらと過ごしてくださった時間、そして不朽の記憶という遺産に、改めて深く感謝の意を表します。

(5/6) 2017年、森氏は広島を訪れたUSJLPデリゲートらを温かく迎え、原爆により命を落とした12名の米軍捕虜兵のために自ら建立に尽力された追悼碑へと案内してくださいました。また、森氏の生涯にわたる活動は、当財団が助成し、チャド・キャノン氏（USJLP 2022, 2023）が音楽を担当した2016年のドキュメンタリー映画『燈籠流し Paper Lanterns』の題材にもなりました。

(4/6) 被爆者であり、著述家、歴史家でもあった森重昭氏が88歳で逝去されたとの報に接し、深い悲しみに包まれています。2016年にバラク・オバマ元米大統領と交わした歴史的な抱擁で多くの人々の記憶に残る森氏ですが、当財団のコミュニティは、森氏の和解に向けた絶え間ない活動を通じて、そのお人柄に触れる機会に恵まれました。

(2/6) In 2017, he welcomed USJLP Delegates to Hiroshima, guiding them to the memorial he helped erect for 12 American POWs who lost their lives in the bombing. His life's work was also the subject of the USJF-funded 2016 documentary Paper Lanterns, scored by Chad Cannon (USJLP 2022, 2023).

(1/6) We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of hibakusha, author, and historian Shigeaki Mori at the age of 88. While many remember him for his historic embrace with former U.S. President Obama in 2016, our community was privileged to know him through his tireless work for reconciliation.
