New shot of Earth from behind the Moon 🌎

The Moon, backlit by the Sun during a solar eclipse, is photographed by NASA’s Orion spacecraft on April 6, 2026, during the Artemis II mission. Orion is visible in the foreground on the left. Earth is reflecting sunlight at the left edge of the Moon, which is slightly brighter than the rest of the disk. The bright spot visible just below the Moon’s bottom right edge is Saturn. Beyond that, the bright spot at the right edge of the image is Mars.

I really can't stop looking at this photo - We usually think of space as being entirely empty and dark, but our sun has a lot of dust around it, giving the moon this eerie backlit glow.

And four people really have been there and witnessed this yesterday, absolutely blows my mind! #Artemis 🔭🧪

At twilight the moons Io (top) and Europa were lined up on the right side of Jupiter, making it hard to determine which one was casting its shadow on the planet. A little patience and the smaller size of the shadow (and Stellarium) made it obvious it was Europa. Details in ALT. #astrophotography
