Today I turn 89. I’ve seen this country at its best and its worst, and I know how much community matters. For my birthday, I’m asking you to stand with PFLAG and support the work that’s helped so many in the LGBTQ+ community, including me. give.pflag.org/page/95493/d...

Boston Globe mock front page from April 9, 2016. Date says April 9, 2017, with giant headline “DEPORTATIONS TO BEGIN” and “Markets sink as trade war looms.”
Ten years ago today, in April 2016, the Boston Globe printed a satirical front page imagining a future Trump administration. The page was called "alarmist," "hyperbolic," "dystopian." But we’ve put up with so much since then it now looks like . . . a slow Thursday?
We gotta bring back the productive kind of national shame. Not the throwing up your hands and going “what can you do, we suck” kind but the “I’ll be GODDAMNED if I let the fucking FRENCH have better TRAINS” kind
I think it's bad for the President to threaten to annihilate an entire culture and i do not think you are being alarmist if you take his threats seriously and literally.
Any federal official who does not respond to Tuesday’s threat in a manner befitting their own constitutional obligations in light of Trump’s past actions will bear a part of the responsibility for what follows.
That’s my take.
Read all about it at Law Dork.
"Among young American men, the strongest predictor of support for the tradwife lifestyle was not gallantry but hostility towards women"
Apparently this is not what researchers "expected". Which makes one wonder: had these researchers thought about it for 30 seconds?

The men's hockey final was fun to watch. Almost as fun as the hockey final.
Yesterday the Washington Post rid itself of Publisher and Chief Executive Will Lewis. If you're interested in those events and their tumultuous background, I would recommend this detailed account from NPR's @davidfolkenflik.bsky.social

Schiff on the SAVE Act: "Jonathan, what you've just asked is essentially, Republicans have created distrust in the elections by making claims of nonexistent fraud, and shouldn't we use the distrust they've created in order to enact a voter suppression law?"
Find yourself a Democrat who looks at ICE, CBP, and DHS the same way Russell Vought looks at CDC and NIH.

Man I read the OSU student’s reaction paper that got a 0 out f 25, and you know, I can see an argument for giving it a higher grade, like a 1 or a 2.
Not more than that, but maybe 1.5.
Good morning to Brazilian reporter Manuela Borges, who’s been waiting eleven years for this petty moment. ❤️ 🇧🇷

A great bit of service journalism. I've never seen something exactly like this: a "prebuttal" to a policy that hasn't been announced yet.
“We won’t go back.”
‘View from the entrance to the Rohwer Internment Camp where my family and I were sent. Circa 1943.’
I keep seeing people say things like, “Well we’re not going to HAVE elections,” and with all due respect, I think this is both wildly pessimistic and also wildly naive.
We are not going to have free and fair elections. We also have not had them in the past.
holy SHIT you need to watch this video
notice what happens about 14 seconds in

Takedown of the not-dire wolves not-news. Come for the scientific piss and vinegar, stay for this bonus aside:
A highlighted excerpt from a news story, apparently about a new washroom in the city bus terminal: "A second person who checked out the women's restroom and who asked not to be identified because she has always wanted to be an anonymous source - reported her findings by email: "Black shiny granite..."
Best reason to go off the record.
1. Show up. Go to the places Musk is taking over, bring cameras, demand to find out what's going on and where it breaks the law.
2. Refuse to allow standard business to continue unimpeded. Deny unanimous consent, delay votes, etc.
3. Be public about how illegal all of this is
4. Lay out a plan
The name it was given at conception was the US Digital Service and I propose we keep calling it that as an act of resistance. According to the autocrats, you don't get to just change your identity on a whim, so surely they'll understand and join us, right?
