My husband knows I’ve been feeling a little down thanks to our Pacific Northwest winter—not to mention the steady rise of fascism in America.

So he made this chicken pot pie and it’s just what the seasonal-affective-disorder doctor ordered.

That said, I remain very concerned about the fascism. 🄺

For NYC, that totally makes sense. But the study Patrick quoted with the 17% reduction in rent, which is the only post I was responding to, was a nationwide study.

But I’m thinking of the 70% of Americans that don’t live in dense urban cores—like Manhattan, downtown Chicago, or San Francisco.

Quick question, what will a monthly parking space rental cost each tenant whose apartment rent is 17% lower? Hopefully less than 17% of their rent?

And, won’t the monthly rent for nearby parking spaces skyrocket if the apartment buildings people live in don’t have any parking?

Since the average American won’t live 50 more years after 25, who exactly are these mortgages for?

P.S. Even if 50-year mortgages become ā€œconforming,ā€ the monthly payment on a $500k loan at 6.75% is only about $200 lower than a 30-year at 6.5%—but you’d pay roughly double the interest over time.

This seems unfair. There’s no way the government can manufacture enough evidence in the case by 5pm today!

As I’d worried, Republicans let Democrats filibuster their own budget bill on purpose… setting them up to take the blame for everything that followed, including the layoffs Republicans already had planned.

Not everyone will believe the GOP’s narrative here. But the optics are clear.

Screenshot of live updates from the Citizen app taken at 10:21 pm PT on 2025/10/5 showing escalating protests in Portland outside the Department of Homeland Security and ICE offices. The top update reports ICE agents on a roof firing six pepper rounds toward protesters after some crossed the property line. Another update describes multiple protest groups clashing—one shouting anti-Antifa slogans, another chanting ā€œI am Charlieā€ and ā€œWhose streets? Our streets!ā€ The image footer reads ā€œvia Citizen app.ā€

MAGA Brownshirts showing up at Portland’s ICE protest last night chanting about Kirk’s death marks a significant but predictable turn in the scripted Project 2025 meta-narrative—one that I’m afraid will play out in Blue cities across America in the weeks and months ahead.

California governor says Trump is sending 300 California National Guard members to Oregon California Gov. Gavin Newsom says the Trump administration is sending 300 California National Guard members to Oregon.

Trump didn’t even need to appeal yesterday’s order blocking his federalization of the Oregon National Guard. He just grabbed them from California. He’s got 50 states to freely choose from, but he picked California to rub it in.

As NPR found in Memphis, many well-meaning Americans wouldn’t mind ā€œa touchā€ of fascism to clean up their streets. An NPR/PBS News/Marist poll earlier this week found 52% support Trump deploying the National Guard in cities to fight crime.

But fascism never stops at just ā€œa touch.ā€

Emergency naked bike ride planned amid Portland troop deployment After President Donald Trump announced plans to deploy the Oregon National Guard to Portland, the Portland World Naked Bike Ride said Wednesday the group is planning an emergency ride in protest.

Portland’s naked bike ride protest could spotlight the deployment of National Guard troops into Blue cities. But it could also create viral videos of federal agents dragging naked ā€œAntifaā€ protesters off their bikes for the administration to blast on Fox News and Truth Social. Stay tuned!

Red-and-black graphic of the White House with bold white text mimicking Trump’s infamous ā€œgrab themā€ quote. It reads: ā€œI’m automatically attracted to blue cities. I just start occupying them. I just send in the National Guard. I don’t even declare martial law. And when you’re a president, they let you do it. You can do anything.ā€

A man in a navy suit walks across a stadium floor while carrying a large wooden cross on wheels. The stadium is packed with people and banners for the Arizona Cardinals football team and an American flag hang overhead. A large screen shows a singer performing, and a giant poster of Charlie Kirk is displayed in the background.

Could there be a more fitting image of religion in America today than a man carry the burden of the cross on wheels?

At least I now understand why they’re called ā€œholy rollersā€.
