Last night ‘Jimpa’ had its premiere at Sundance.
An absolute highlight of 2024 was spending time with this wonderful cast to develop their character’s movement, body/mind/touch experience though the film and supporting fab director/writer Sophie Hyde to craft a loving generous workspace. #Jimpa

Visited Ark Soane- watched some beautiful teaching and had lunch with some confident, articulate and joyful students; decided that even after 15 years I have a duty to ensure my teaching is always developing and that my students would benefit from being more engaged, active and accountable!

Great bit of context for the contradictions and imbalanced society reflected in Romeo and Juliet!

I always wanted to teach, from as young as I remember, despite being extremely shy as a child. Loved helping my little siblings and their friends to ride bikes, setting up Parties and games etc. Loved books and poems too! Insecure and disadvantaged background and needed a secure escape route.

Taking this terrifying thing out trick or treating (aka drinking fizzy wine at her friend’s house whilst she goes out with her friends)

Climbing ladders isn't the scary part. Looking down is. Some of us have further to fall. Our support network isn't as affluent nor equipped to help in the samevway. Often, we are the ones called on to help.

Ooh- thank you. Planning a feedback lesson tomorrow and this will be super useful. I find some students don't or maybe can’t ’visualise’ (or see images in their heads) or indeed ‘feel’ anything when they read a text (except maybe confused sometimes) which can be a huge barrier to articulation.

Equity and the Curriculum When I decide to join Ofsted back in 2022 I know that there were one of two eyebrows raised. What on earth was she doing? She didn’t have the experience to do that job. Ofsted are an evil organisation...

*** NEW POST ***

Reflections on Ofsted, curriculum and equity from @greeborunner.bsky.social

Is there enough focus on a common entitlement to an excellent education?

The Reading Map - A Primer
The Reading Map - A Primer YouTube video by Christopher Such

Following a few requests from teachers and school leaders, I've made a short video on the key ideas that I think teachers (and parents/carers) need to know about reading development, based on my reading concept map.

4) Think about your leadership team and their leadership styles carefully and strategically: do you have diversity in approaches; do you have a ‘type’; does your SLT team reflect your staff body; can female teacher see ‘themselves’ there.

3) Tell women they are good enough; tell women they are capable; tell them to apply for promotion and opportunities.

2) Challenge comments such as ‘You won’t get the time back’; ‘The time travels so fast’; ‘They are only babies for a short time’ and DO NOT assume: ‘You won’t want to do that course now, will you…’. If it wouldn’t get said to an expectant dad it shouldn’t be said.

To support equity
1) Make no assumptions about what working hours/ be flexible/ acknowledge the challenge/ don’t promote ‘time in office’ or martyrdom culture

1) Mat Leave/mum-guilt
2) Confidence/imposter syndrome
3) Male-dominated/masculine focused perception of what a leader ‘looks’ like

Finally managed to get the websites www.frayer-model.co.uk and www.more-same-less.co.uk up and running again. For any maths teachers that haven't seen them in the past (or have and found them useful!) check them out. #UKMathsChat
