This is the point in the NBA season where I begin to actively root against teams I actually like just bc they MIGHT stand in the way of “my” team’s playoff prospects. Not proud of it.
Or the fact that I’m still awake right now.

In the interim there was some food prep and late-night work and TikTok and anxiety
Having one of those nights where I legitimately felt I could go to sleep at 5:30 p.m. AND YET it is almost 2 a.m. and I decided to reach for my phone one last time to check the NBA standings after Monday’s games 🙄
She was flattened by cognitive dissonance _______
I’ve begun observing a new tradition: rewatching “Heated Rivalry” every time I’m sick
I love this! We are hosting a New Year's Day gathering, the first of many in 2026, I hope. The pandemic + a falling-apart bathroom (renovated in early autumn of this year) both got us out of the habit.
I think I got a “wow” that may have been sincere
Me: Yes, [to answer your question] it is actually ***69*** songs. It was three whole CDs!
Them: 🤨
Have introduced two 20-somethings to The Magnetic Fields’ “69 Love Songs” over the past week bc it’s important to educate the youth

Obligatory note that Joe Carter is a Wichita State alum.
Finally looked into who Dax Shepard is. Crosby Braverman?! Huh.
"Trump, who issued an executive order dictating new federal buildings be designed in classical and traditional styles."
Not surprised but I somehow completely missed this order signed on Aug. 28: www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...
Reading this & thinking about Bill Clinton's Lincoln Bedroom scandal, which now seems almost painfully quaint wapo.st/3WjyJv8
Maybe but it feels like a good sign that they took action instead of dismissing the story as "fake news."
Often I feel like I’m doing pretty well & then I consider how much tension I’m holding in my jaw
I always experience a bit of cognitive dissonance when I run across the work of this particular commentator because he has such a common Mennonite surname.
Recently a family member sarcastically referred to me as a "Zen master," which is hilarious if you have any sense of how anxious I am ... BUT I did let the driver of a car in front of me space out at a green light today for five seconds without honking

Same — and it seems like that experience is universal. Even the AbEx authority who curated the exhibition had not heard of 2-3 of the artists before embarking on the book project that led to the show.
Our editorial assistant and I worked for a couple hours yesterday sitting opposite the giant Helen Frankenthaler in the back gallery :)

Blue etterforms, gold crowns, and green hearts are superimposed on a pink and black background in Angelica Fuentes' "Crazy Love."
White squiggles crowd a bright pink color field, dotted with dustings of gold and blue in Savannah Gayle's "Abstract is Hard."
Lynette Basford's yarn sculpture Circling Around is composed of five circles made with stiffened off-white yarn that form an ethereal-looking cluster.
From my First Friday wanderings in Wichita last week: at Envision Arts Gallery, works by artists who are blind or visually impaired from the Los Angeles and Anaheim Braille Institutes.
