Out of context, it could be read as a jab at the thousands of Ivy Leaguers to whom he was speaking. In context, it was a powerful point: most Americans don’t have a sense of true poverty.

Also important to note here that background checks aren’t just about who’s smoked weed or bounced a rent check. Biggest things they’re looking for are whether the applicant has ties to foreign governments or is susceptible to blackmail.
