I think he's right about the immigration part (though it's pretty reductive to rule it out completely, given Reform gained so much ground), but I think he's wrong about Burnham. The polling I've seen suggests that Reform and Green voters generally like him which would have made all the difference.

I said to a friend at the time, the sensible move would be to let Burnham stand, then either lose on his own terms or give him the job of Home Secretary/sucking up to Trump at the Foreign Office to tamper down his popularity with the grassroots...
