(They almost certainly wouldn't have a good opiniom of him if he won and took over from Starmer about six months into his leadership, but for the purposes of this week's by-election...)

I think he's right about the immigration part (though it's pretty reductive to rule it out completely, given Reform gained so much ground), but I think he's wrong about Burnham. The polling I've seen suggests that Reform and Green voters generally like him which would have made all the difference.

I said to a friend at the time, the sensible move would be to let Burnham stand, then either lose on his own terms or give him the job of Home Secretary/sucking up to Trump at the Foreign Office to tamper down his popularity with the grassroots...

"The Twilight Zone" The Wunderkind (TV Episode 2019) ⭐ 5.2 | Drama, Fantasy, Horror 40m | TV-MA

That would be Anthony in "It's A Good Life" - an episode the until recently had no real world relevance...

The recent Jordan Peele reboot had an episode where a literal child becomes President. There's a reason most people think it lacks the subtly of the original... m.imdb.com/title/tt9199...

Oh, I know - I meant who made the modified version (if it's you, great job!)

Oh man, that's a great (but horribly grim) comic. What's the original source?

We don’t yet know who killed Kirk or why. Not that you’d know it from the endless numbers of accounts on X with huge follower numbers, including British politicians, making as yet unknowable claims about the motivations behind the murder.

Exhibit A. Extraordinary stuff.

Don’t think I’ve ever muttered the words “fuck me sideways” quite so much reading a story as this one.

It strikes me that the UK government is never going to have a better opportunity to ban X than right now. Trump would actively approve!

If it wanted to be really cynical, it could write a statement about tackling disinformation, "including disgusting fake news about the Great President of the US."

There's a very good incentive for us to reach an agreement with Stoke City where we just sit in the centre circle and wait it out...

I put that down to the fact that they're all so transparently fake. They clearly don't believe in it, and it shows.

Trump, by contrast, has a weird kind of authenticity. Clearly not in terms of honesty, but I'm saying what he thinks at any point, regardless of the consequences. Nobody else has that

Maybe I'm hopelessly naive, but I actually think there's a strong chance that MAGA dies with him - or at least electable MAGA.

They'll try, but I take some comfort from the Republican debates he didn't take part in. All of the candidates tried to win the fascist beauty parade and they all bombed...

Oh! £395.99 or £429.95 with Mario Kart apparently...

Backwards compatibility and a new Mario Kart might be enough, depending on price. Did they announce anything related to pricing at all?

Also, mouse support could be a game changer for non-PC players, but as a PC owner it's just a nice extra for me.

Perhaps I'm easily pleased, but I almost let out an audible whoop at GameCube games on Switch Online...

No new 3D Mario is disappointing, though. And I do wonder if it has Wii U vibes as a very similar follow up to a huge hit...

What research is that? I'd love to have something to back up my personal values, but I find it hard to ignore how pretty much all elections in my lifetime have gone when a party has shouted (rather than whispered) its progressive values...

As left wing as I personally am, regrettably I don't think social conservatism is a vote losing issue.

I agree with austerity though - I think most problems and disillusionment can be traced back to the fallout of the 2008 crash...

I remember the worst one being checking on live scores, though that also reminds me of the quality hallucination Kagi AI gave me...

(I can count on one hand the number of times I've tried generative AI, and this reminded me of why I don't...)

I paid for it for a while last year, but the search results just seemed even worse than Google's for simple stuff so I ended up canceling. Has it got any better?

The scale of the decline of Google search in quality, relevance, usability and more should have triggered a full-scale alarm in Alphabet’s boardroom months ago.

The fact the company is just plodding on while its core product is visibly worse than it was is a disaster.

This actually feels like a discarded plotline for a Rev Christmas special.
