A detail everyone is ignoring or forgetting.

Peter Mandelson masterminded Keir Starmer's reshuffle days before the scandal broke.

That is, while he was the US Ambassador.

This seems like quite an important detail!

Let me ask this question: how do you expect "dialogue" when one side screams slurs nonstop until they get fired from their job, only to have their court case bankrolled by the billionaire in the mold castle. Every single one of them is at some stage of Glinner-ification. What would that achieve

Starmer update: the situation is so dire that the questions have now become "does the Prime Minister have object permanence?" which does feel like it's time to not only resign as PM, but be removed from elected politics all together.

Comic. I’m at my desk, leaning over to the doorway, saying “Hey! Foghorn! Foghorn Leghorn! Get in here!”
Foghorn Leghorn is walking past the doorway, “Boy, I tell ya, I tell ya, not so loud, boy. What, I say, I say, what d’ya want?”
Next panel, I’m gesturing to my computer. “How do I find that really good manga you recommended? It’s an anime now? I keep getting Halloween costumes.” Foghorn leans over my chair, “well, boy, I say, I say, you ain’t typin the entire title.”
Last panel, I turn around- “you said ‘witch hat.’ Foghorn gets in my face- “open your ears, boy!! ‘Witch Hat Atelier, I tell ya! I tell ya ‘Atelier,’ I tell ya’”

Keir Starmer is not a liar! He may be a fraud, a charlatan, an autoritarian, a liar, but he is NOT a porn star!

It’s illustrative to recognise when the Guardian uses the word investment (straightforward handing over cash to the private sector) and when it uses spending (welfare, public sector wages)

There's few things that I find more insulting than Labour frontbenchers trying to claim credit for doing this when we can all see they were forced into it by threat of losing control of the party entirely. It's good that it happened, stop trying to act like it was in the plan all along.

The “Calvin’s dad explains two types” meme, inspired by a Calvin and Hobbes cartoon.

Clockwise from top left:
1) Calvin’s dad walks into frame to find Calvin trying to operate a record player. The dad says: “There are only two industries left in America: gambling, and fraud.”

2) The dad shows where the record goes, and how to turn on the player, while Calvin watches. Dad says “Derivatives? Gambling. AI? Fraud. Video games? Gambling. Social media? Fraud.” Calvin says “yeah”.

3) With one hand open palm up, Calvin’s dad cheerfully explains to Calvin out of frame below him, “The stock market looks like gambling, but it’s actually fraud.”

4) In bed in a dark room, Calvin clutches at his pillow, eyes wide in existential terror. There is no text in the panel.

Spurious Home Office decisions rejecting student visas are threatening universities' ability to enrol young people from abroad, it is claimed.

New rules come into effect in June that will punish universities if more than 4 per cent of study visas are rejected by the Home Office.

However, the changes coincide with a marked increase in the numbers of visas being refused by the Home Office on spurious and inaccurate grounds, according to research by universities that has been shared with The Times. Neither students nor universities are able to challenge the decisions, which are often taken months after a university has accepted the applicant and in some cases just days before they are due to start studying.

UKVI carries out discretionary "credibility interviews" to ascertain that a student's intentions to study here are genuine.

In another interview, when asked why they had chosen to apply to their chosen institution, the applicant said they had considered several factors, including the university's ranking, employability support, student satisfaction while also noting that it was an ancient institution and cited the year it was founded.

The UKVI rejected the application, explaining that they were not satisfied the applicant was genuine given they had quoted the wrong founding year. The university subsequently confirmed that the applicant had provided the correct year and the UKVI caseworker was incorrect, but the decision could not be reconsidered.

In another case a foreign student was rejected from obtaining a visa to study at the University of East Anglia due to a dispute over whether the university was in Norfolk. The applicant asserted correctly that it was, but the UKVI caseworker appeared to confuse Norfolk with Norwich, which is the capital of the county, and rejected the application - believing the applicant was wrong.

In another credibility interview the applicant was asked to describe some of the taught modules they would be studying as part of their degree. The applicant explained that they had been offered a place to study a PhD in biomedical engineering which was fully research-based so did not have any taught modules.

Despite this, the UKVI refusal letter stated that they were not satisfied on the basis that their answers were "vague and generic" and had failed to explain the taught modules they would be studying.

It is almost, almost, impressive just how Labour have taken the massively dysfunctional and incompetent Home Office and managed by dint of policies and rhetoric to make it even more dysfunctional and incompetent. It is a true testament to how hostile they are to migrants.

Yet again, we see how YouTube enables theft and fraud to a massively audacious degree. YouTube is focused only on distancing itself from the predation riddling their platform but they *are* responsible for it. They allow it, they make it easy to do, they ensure it can be done with no repercussions.

It's so fucking funny to see all the Sensible Serious British Commentators pretend that Starmer was silent during the whole Iran crisis because he was doing vital behind the scenes diplomacy. As if the world can't turn without the British Prime Minister's input.

A4 panel comic. Panel 1. A woman sits on a train and text says I love seeing people smile at their phones in public. Panel 2. The woman is crying looking at her phone and smiling. Have they received? Happy news. Is it a text from a loved one perhaps? Panel 3. She is wiping the tears away and smiling still. What could be instilling such joy in that moment? The panel 4 we can see on her phone. She is looking at a newspaper article that says scientists confirm that Margaret Thatcher died in absolute agony.

Protestors used to stand outside the White House chanting “Hey, Hey, LBJ, how many kids did you kill today?” in protest against the US’ murderous war in Vietnam. Probably worth remembering today when politicians whine about being ‘abused’ for, inter alia, cutting welfare and abetting war crimes.

There's something a bit poignant about a Bluetooth device failing to connect to another device right next to it when they're the only Bluetooth devices for hundreds of thousands of kilometres around.

Worth remembering that in this specific situation these guys are talking about an MP who entered the commons taking the place of a Labour MP who was texting people in private group chats about how he wanted his elderly constituents to die rather than to bother him.

Cool. Like with the 2 child benefit cap a load of MPs *did fully* understand it was driving child poverty *and also* that child poverty costs the state more in future…
but they wanted to impress voters who didn’t understand that and commentators who didn’t care, so they did a uh hard trade-off
